I am just starting to search my family. Grandfather was John Uram born in PA in 1901. Both his parents were from Austria. He moved from PA to Benald Illinois and from there into Missouri. He was married to Eliza in approx. 1923. they had daughters Lillian, June, Eva, Mary, Margaret, Linda, and a son Michael.

John Uram was my mother's brother. My mother was Eva. Yesterday my Aunt Julia Wagner nee Uram died yesterday (3/26/2013) at age 107. She is the last of 9 children of Nicholas Uram and Mary Kanchuga. Since I was a small child, it was always mentioned that the family was Russian. I believe our family is actually Rusyn which to my understanding was an area near Poland and Austria but, not a foramlly recognized government etc. The Rusyn area was inhabited by families who were very poor. The men primarily worked as coal miners and most families were Greek Orthodox. At one point in history as many as 1.3 million moved to the US. Many moved to Pennsylvania. My Aunt Julia was born in PA and moved to IL with her family. I recall the names of brothers as: Annie, Mary, Julia, Eva, Lucille, John, Andy, Mickey and Stevie.
