I am working on a massive ROTHROCK family tree.

Elizabeth ROTHROCK was born 16 Sep 1778 at York County, Pennsylvania and died 04 Dec 1848 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. She was the first of thirteen children of John ROTHROCK (1744-1805) and Salome Charity (went by Charity) WORLEY ROTHROCK (1759-1828) who married in 1776 at York, York County, Pennsylvania and lived their lives in York County. Elizabeth married Thomas UPDEGRAFF (b. 24 Jun 1774 at York County, Pennsylvania and died 31 Oct 1857 at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania) on 10 Aug 1796 at York, York County, Pennsylvania.

Thomas was the son of Abraham UPDEGRAFF (1746-1781) and Mary (Key?) MENDENHEIM (1737-1837). At this time I am only interested in, and have information on, the descendants of
Elizabeth ROTHROCK UPDEGRAFF and her husband Thomas UPDEGRAFF. Elizabeth and Thomas were the parents of eight known children. They moved from York County, Pennsylvania to Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in about 1807. The children are:

1. Abraham UPDEGRAFF (c1795 - young), was he really a son of Elizabeth and Thomas?

2. Anna Maria UPDEGRAFF (1797 - 1872) went by Mary. She died at Williamsport. She married Col. William FIELD (1793-1872) in 1818 and they were the parents of fourteen children. They are buried at the Washington Boulevard Cemetery at Williamsport.

3. William UPDEGRAFF (1798 - 1846) died at Rensselaer, Jasper County, Indiana. He married Rachel SMITH (1800-1836) in 1826. She also died at Rensselaer. They were the parents of eight known children.

4. Eliza UPDEGRAFF (1802 - 1862) went by Eliza. She married 1) Adam HUNTER (b. 1797 in Scotland) and 2) William FIELD. She was the mother of Robb and Caroline (b. 1842) HUNTER. The HUNTER family was living in Williamport in 1850.

5. Lucy UPDEGRAFF (1803 - 1876) married Samuel LOVE (b. 1804) in 1829 at Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Nothing is known of any children. Lucy and Samuel are buried at the Washington Boulevard Cemetery, at Williamsport, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania.

6. Sarah UPDEGRAFF (1805 - 1877) went by Sally and she married Antis SECHLER (1805-???). They had three known children.

7. Abraham UPDEGRAFF (1808 - 1884) lived his live at Williamsport. He married Maria Elizabeth PETERMAN (1817-1886) and had seven children.

8. Susan UPDEGRAFF (1810 - 1872) married John THOMPSON (c1806-1869) in 1827. They lived at Williamsport. They had eight children.

Does anyone have information to trade on this family and their descendants? Does anyone have a cemetery index for Lycoming County that could look up where these people are buried?

Thanks, Dan_Stevenson@sparta.com

I can provide you with information about Antis Sechler and Sarah Updegraff and their descendants if you don't already have it. Just let me know what you need. There is a very good "book" about the life of Thomas Updegraff. There are numerous references to his wife, Elizabeth (Betsy) in it. The book is called "A Sketch of the Life of the Late Thomas Updegraff by his Son Abraham Updegraff," published in 1929. It's about 50 pp. long. Actually, I think that it was originally published in the Williamsport Banner as a series of articles. It is well worth reading.

Judi,
Maybe you can help me. I'm looking for the parents of William Updegraff 1801-1833. He was born in PA. I think his parents might be William (b.1720) and Sarah (Bennett) Updegraff. Grandparents Heramn ( 1711-1758) and Mary Ann Lowen. Great grandfather maybe Isaac.
I know about William (1801-1833) and his descendants. I "ll share what I have. William went to NY. So if none of the names I have for parents fit, any Updegraff from PA heading to NY in about 1803. He must have moved with his family since he was so young.
Thanks
Julie

Julie,

I hit the "enter" key too quickly! I'm afraid I can't help you. I don't have your William in my database as I have just started working on this line. I do have Herman Updegraff (1711-1768) m. Mary Ann Lawden (b. abt 1713). They had six children. My line descends from their child, Abraham.

I have six kids. I think that Harman and Herman are the same person (I have it recorded as Harman in my database). I can't confirm the dates, however, because I've just started researching this line. Have you looked at a "History of Lycoming County Pennsylvania?" It has a lot of biographical information about various Updegraffs throughout it's chapters. You might find some information about your line in it. The address is: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/pa/county/lycoming/countyhistory....

Would you happen to have a Daniel Updegraff, born abt. 1795 anywhere in the line. I've tried to trace Daniel's parents for quite sometime. My Daniel was born in Pa. and died in Apollo, Armstrong Co., abt. 1870. The one clue I have is the name Franklin. That line carried the "Franklin" name through several generations.
