I have a Casper Updegraff in my line born 7/13/1801. He married Ann Elizabeth Trego in 1827.

Thier children are Samuel, Sarah J. (b: 2/19/1830 d: 5/3/1894), Lydia, Mary A., Ner L. (b:1/26/1835-d:1/28/1895), Hannay, Tamzen, Samantha (d:2/27/1860), Lott (b: 1843-d:4/13/1845), Polly, Phoebe, Ann E., Lousia, John M. (b:6/20/1851)

Ner L. Updegraff married Isabel Plott and Louisa M. Greek.

Sarah J. Updegraff married my GGGgrandfather, James A. Hunter.

Anything look familiar?

Clif,
I am descended from Lydia Clarice Updegraff, but I was wondering if you have info on who is the father of Rose Updegraff, Samantha's daughter.

Hi cousin! That is a good question. Here is what I have:

Samantha Updegraff married a man whose last name is Battenfield. I don't have his first name or dates of birth or death.

Whether or not he is actually Rose's father may be lost in time. I thought it suspicious that Rose's last name was the same as her mothers, so maybe she came along before Battenfield, or they were not married at the time of Rose's birth.

Thanks, Clif. Apparently I have the same info you do. I am suspicious of the Battenfield connection and I was under the impression that Samantha never married! There is another theory that says Rosabel's father was named Greek. Barry

Well, here I am. Another cousin out of the blue.

My GG Grandfather is William M. Plott, the brother of Isabel Plott according to my records. I wanted to know if you have the siblings of Isabel Plott (to confirm my info) and if you had Isabel's parents. I have them as Christian Plott (DOD 6 October 1875) and Matilda Widle. This is real important because I have a picture of a woman that is supposed to be William's mother (and in your case Isabel's mother)according to my 95 year old grandmother, but we don't know her name. Can you confirm? I also know of a picture of Napoleon B. (Isabel's brother); would you like? Any vitals on the Plott's you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Sandra! While I don't have any information about Isabel's siblings, I can confirm her parents. The following is taken from The History of Wyandot County:

"NER L. UPDEGRAFF, son of Casper and Ann E. Updegraff, was born in Carroll County, Ohio, January 26, 1835. He resided with his parents till thirty-three years of age, and has been a resident of this township about forty years, spending the greater part of this time on the homestead where his mother now resides. He has always engaged in farming and stock. raising, and has been fairly successful. He inherited a small portion of land and has since purchased eighty acres, also some property in Carey. Mr. Updegraff was married, August 20, 1868, to Miss Isabel Plott, who died May 12, 1880. She was born in Pennsylvania October 20, 1837, her parents being Christian and Matilda (Widle) Plott, natives of Pennsylvania. In politics, Mr. Updegraff is a Democrat. He holds the offices of Trustee and Justice of the Peace, and has served in others. He was a member of the Methodist Protestant Church several years, but of late affiliates with the Christian, known better as the Campbellite Church."

I wish I could be of more help. By the way, I would be very interested if you have scanned the pictures you mentioned if you can e-mail copies to me. Let me know if I can help more. Thanks,

Clif Hunter

My ggg grandfather is John Updegraff. It is suggested that Casper and John are brothers.
My John married Susannah Snyder. They lived in Clarion County PA. Children are: Theophilus, John S, Catherine Ann,
Elizabeth and Thomas W. Thomas is my line.
I am wondering if in your research you have found any concrete documents yet to confirm who Caspers (and Johns) parents were?
Thank you for your time,
Cindy

My gg grandfather was Thomas Updegraft born in Ohio 1821. He moved to Dekalb Indiana and is on the 1850 census. I feel he may be the son of Isaac and Mary Snyder (Schnieder). As Isaac and Elizabeth and Casper all children of the above lived in the area about the same time. Thomas was married to Sarah Oberholtzer also born in Ohio. Later to Amanda Caldwell. He died in Ks.
