The name was originally Isaaks - when the the family relocated from Zammerdam after the massacre of the Mennonites the family relocated to Aldekirke. Herman Isaaks then relocated to Krefeld where he adopted the name of op den Graeff. The stained window panes which reflect this name as op den Graeff are in a museum in Germany. I have colored copies of the window panes. Herman was a Mennonite bishop and a signer of the 1632 Dordrecht Confession of Faith. One his sons around 1670 converted to Quakerism. Rather interesting in 1679 when Derick married on the Quaker marriage certificate all the family signed as Isaaks rather than op den Graeff. In 1683 almost all the Quakers in Krefeld, 13 families, three of which were op den Graeffs sailed on the Concord to Pa and settled Germantown. There is not any reliable information regarding the family prior to 1485. some say they were Portuguese Jews fleeing the Inquisition and others some sort of a family of nobility. PS: Yes, I think I am one of the few Updegraffs that after 350 years that is still a Quaker. .

Have quite a bit of information, but you can never have too much.
Am a member of the West Valley Genealogy Society in Sun City, AZ so spend a lot of time down there working.
Even get to the Updegraff's every once in a while.
Loved your post and thank you so much for putting all the information on line, it was very kind of you.
