MY MAIDEN NAME IS UPTEGRAFT. MY FATHER'S FAMILY CAME FROM INDIANA. I HAVE SOME RECORDS FOR THE FAMILY AND I'LL LOOK BACK AND SEE IF I CAN FIND ANYTHING FOR YOU. GOING OVER THE CENSUS FOR VARIOUS YEARS IS VERY DIFFICULT BECAUSE THE NAME WAS SPELLED DIFFERENTLY EVERY TIME SOMEONE DIFFERENT TOOK IT. MY FATHER HAD A COUSIN THAT LIVED 10 MILES FROM MY HOME TOWN AND HE SPELLED HIS NAME UPTEGRAPH [I THINK THAT'S IT].
MY GRANDFATHER HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THEY ALL WERE BORN IN INDIANA. I WILL GET MY RECORDS OUT AND SEND YOU MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THEM. I AM LOOKING FOR MY GRANDFATHER'S FATHER. HIS NAME WAS 'ARTHUR UPTEGRAFT' AND I CAN NOT CONNECT HIM TO ANY PARENTS. I HAVE FOUND HIM ON THE CENSUS AS CHILD, BUT LIVING WITH A WOMAN AND CHILD THAT HAD A DIFFERENT NAME. I KNOW THIS IS ALL VERY VAGUE BUT I'LL TRY TO CLEAR IT UP LATER.
MY E-MAIL ADDRESS IS LISTED, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTACT ME DIRECTLY.

Hi Rachel, I belong to an antique sampler guild and today I was in a meeting and the subject was old samplers from Pennsylvania. I have this old sampler that I have had for many years, probably at least 25. Anyway, I have always looked at the name on it and thought it was updegratther, but today we realized that the name was actually Updegraff. The persons name on it is Polly Updegraff and it was done in 1811. Do you think this could possibly be one of your relatives? She was probably young when she made it and may have gotten married later, resulting in another name. Any info you could give me would be great. I believe that my grandmother got this sampler from her sister. Both were from the Phila area. Please email me back!! My email address is nancyba@gte.net.
