Surnames: Grasse, Umathum
I have not done much research on that side of the family yet, but here's what I know: Mary Umathum married John Grasy in Austria. John was from somewhere names St. Peter, although there are many of those there. Anyway, they had 7 children, 6 of them in Austria: John, Barbara, Ann, Michael, Stephan, Christine, and George Edward, born in Stevens Point, WI in 1893. I have three variations of the name: Grasy, Grassy and Grasse.

I too am researching Umathum's from Austria. I am the granddaughter of Elizabeth who was Mary's sister. I have been in contact with a relative in Austria and another sister in Las Vegas, Cec.

I am helping my half sister find her Umathum family and notice that you have a listing for Elizabeth Hauser Umathum Knapp. I found Elizabeth Knapp, daughter of Michael & Elizabeth Umathum, with her parents in the 1920 census of Woodstock, McHenry, Illinois. As I read your inquiry it looks as if Elizabeth Hauser married a Umathum and then married a Knapp. But I do not believe that this is true as both Elizabeth (mother) and Elizabeth (daughter) are listed in the same household. My sister has information on Mary Anna Umathum who married William John Salzman and their descendants whom she will gladly share with you, for the information on the Umathum family that you posses. Please contact me at geninut39@yahoo.com or thru this message board.

Thanks Barbara

Candy, I know your post is really old, but if you are still there, I am looking for information on Michael/Michal Umatum/Umathum. He came to the US in 1911 possibly on the Floride, if he is my grandfather. My grandfather was single when he came and married my grandmother who came over first. She was Antonia (maybe) Franks, not sure of maiden name.
