Researching the Ulanowski Family
I'm attempting to research my great grandfather's family out of Chicago Illinois - his name was Stanley Ulanowski and I believe he was born 4/15/1894. His parents were Joseph Ulanowski and Anastasia Shemanski. There were 3 children of the marriage, my great grandfather Stanley (m. Mary Lignowski in Menasha WI, three daughters Magdaleen Bridges, Mary Lansing, & Lucille McLaughlin) Lottie (m. Leo Levandowski, 2 children Leo Jr. and Eleanor Chaplecka sp?) and lastly Joseph (m.?, three children Gertrude, Caroline, & Valeria). That's all I have and I have found absolutely nothing else to go on. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. I remember my grandmother talking to a cousin Theresa Ulanowski out of Chicago area - I think they might have shortened the name to "Ulan"

Re: Researching the Ulanowski Family
I am interested in finding family with ties to the Ulanowski surname related to my great-Grandmother Waleria Ulanowska. My name is Maureen Murray Webb and my connection to Waleria is through her daughter Regina Kruszynski Steupak (Szczupak) and her daughter Annette Valerie Steupak Murray.
This is all the information I have been able to put together so far, and was wondering if there may be a connection to your family?
Waleria was born in Berlin or Gorzno (different sources indicate either place)
Parents: Elizabeth Pniewski and Francis Ulanowski.
Waleria married Joseph Michael Kruszynski (we believe in Poland) 8/17/1903 and they emigrated to the United States in 1905 or 1906.
From old family pictures of a funeral (who's funeral is unknown, but it was in Poland) the following specific people are identified on the back: "Uncle Brunick" (possibly "Bronek"), wife Aunt Marta, daughter Joan Joanna (Waleria's sister) Sikorska, daughter Irene/Irena/Ireane, Marian - Irene's husband Anderef/Andrej/Andrejewskiego Janina/Joan Dominte
In addition, other family pictures/letters indicate Waleria's had a cousin(?) Duniska, and Waleria's mother and Duniska's mother were sisters. Waleria may have had as many as 5 sisters and possibly 2 brothers: Joanna, Anna, Dominka, and two or three more sisters and 2 brothers whose names are as yet unknown.
(Sister) Anna married Frank Staskiewicz, had 3 daughters: Henrietta(Hennia) married to Joseph Swiatek, Viola (Florence) and Cecelia.
Aunt Duniska had 2 daughters: Lillian who married Frank Das, and Julie who married George ? (Julie and George had a daughter Irene: Frank and Lillian had 3 children - Dorothy, Mildred - married Virgil Eugene Norris in 1960, and Thomas).
Joseph Michael and Waleria Kruszynski lived in Fostoria, Ohio, USA until their deaths. They had 14 children (7 boys and 7 girls) all of whom we believe to be born in Fostoria.
Any information you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated in making a connection if any of this information is familiar to you.
Regards, Maureen Murray Webb

Re: Researching the Ulanowski Family
Maureen, I doubt this is any connection to my family as your ancestor had already married and changed her name in Poland. If you do find a connection let me know!

Sorry to post again but if you find any connection with this with the last names Chaplecka (sp?), Levandowski, Lingnowski or any connection to the Chicago area let me know!

Re: Researching the Ulanowski Family
Leslie,
I do know that one of Waleria's sisters (which one unknown) came to the US to live with them (however, they did not travel together), but no one recalls where she went after she left them in Fostoria. Neither do we know what her married name might be.
As for your other surnames, I would suggest checking for Czaplicka or other possible spellings by wildcarding on the web. And I have seen many Lewandowski postings. I have had the best luck here on Ancestry w/the use of soundex. Sometimes you have to wade through a lot of messages to find them, but I have found many similar spelllings for the Szczupak and Kruszynskis I am searching for by using the soundex option. All that said and done, the Polish lines are the hardest ones I have - even the German and Irish families have been easier for me to find. Good luck in your search, I will definitely let you know if I come across these names.

Thanks for the advice - I'll keep plodding along! I'm planning on heading down to Chicago sometime soon and doing some research there - I've hit a wall online. Thanks again!
