There has been a compilation of Uland family history from John Uland of Virginia in the 1740's connecting to Ulands in Greene County Indiana and many Ulands in Texas. My Father, Franklin J. Uland has much of this. Look for a historian in Iowa, named Carter....

I am not sure where Dad got his but will find out. There is a professor of history, last name Carter at a college in Iowa that told Dad where to get it. It has a picture of one of the John Ulands. By the way one of your distant cousins is also in Colorado. Mike Uland, son of Ted Uland is a geologist.

There are actually two books. One is written by Charles O. Carter of Chanute, Kansas (This is the historian that I thought was in Iowa.) There is also one called Folklore by Mildred Uland. When I next see my folks I will look in the books and see if it has an address for getting them.

Hello guys, I don't mean to but in on your conversation, but I do have the one book, Gone But Not Forgotte, An Anthology of fact & folklore, by Mildred Uland. I have her address if you want it, the book is huge and really interesting. It is not just on Uland history, but does list quite a few. My mother is Hazel Uland Demski, daughter of Oscar & Mary (Sisson) Uland of Des Arc, AK. I am trying to find info on John Wesley Uland & Davis Jane Birch, married 9/21/1881. They were living in Green County, IND, until going by wagon train to Ark about 1900.

Thanks for your reply. I will look to see what if any info Dad had for John Wesley Uland. Are you looking for specific information about him or family tree and in which direction? John is certainly a descendent of Jonas Uland I and Elzabeth Bayes. They emigrated to Indiana in 1819 from Southern Virginia, and John died in transit. At the time there were three children including my ancestor John Uland I. They continued to Indiana with the Bayes family where Elizabeth remarried and had several more children. The entire extended family headed west about the time you mentioned, but my branch chickened out in Missouri and returned to Green County. My father had tracked down a fair number of the descendants that continued on to Texas and had built a pretty substantial database. I will look in his records when I am next home..
