Hi Irene

Will see what I can turn up for you. Would you know what religion your Fred was? And do you have your grandmother's birth certificate to see if Fred has put the same info on there or perhaps something slightly different? If I come across any Fred's marrying an Elizabeth, I will certainly let you know. Or if I find anyone who might have gone to Denmark. Will let you know either way. If you find out anything else let me know.

Another option you might try for trying to find out a bit more information is to ask on the AUS-VIC message board. The people on the AUS-VIC mailing list (which the message will be automatically sent to) are very knowledgeable and helpful.

Regards
Faye

Hi Faye,

Yes the info is the same on both certificates. I am not very computer literate and would love to access the AUS-VIC message board, but don't know how to do so. Can you give me some guidance please?

Regards,
Irene

Hi Irene

Go to http://www.rootsweb.com/ and click on Message Boards at the top of the page. On the next page click on browse all localities, then Oceania, then Australia, then Victoria, then General. Post a new message there and see if someone can come up with somewhere different to look. Or if you like I can send a message to the AUS-VIC mailing list for you and send the advice/info on to you. Would you mind sending me your email address please?

I have already searched the Unassisted Shipping Lists (they are found on the Public Record Office Victoria - PROV - http://www.prov.vic.gov.au/about/default.asp ) into Victoria online for you and there are no Ukena's listed. There is only one Ukena death listed on NSW BDM site, http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/ (free to search this one).

Another thing I found while searching for one of my ancestors today was mention of a ship Liverpool. I thought it might be a possibilty that your ancestor was born on board a ship called Liverpool and he's mistaken it for the city in England (just a thought).

Regards
Faye

This is a long shot and I know I need more information to give to you but I was excited to see this post about Hannover, Preußen, Germany.
My grandmother, Matey Roxie Ukena, was born 1887 in Sumner, KS. Her father Frederick Ukena was born in Hanover, Germany in Nov 1842 to German parents. But Who?? How can I find out? The 1880 Kansas Census indicated he came over in 1861. Fred's oldest dau named Gesina, and I have an aunt Oleeta. Any suggestions would be great.

Fred Ukena parents possibly on family search site

If you go to www.familysearch.org and search under all resources for Fred Ukena, it gives a Fred Ukena born in 1842, died 1915 son of Johann and Gesche Wessendorf. There is no source given, but this would be a good place to start. There are only about 100 Ukenas in the US when you search the last name using Yahoo people directory. My feeling is that we are probably all connected back to the Aurich area of Germany since it is a very uncommon name.

A girl that graduated with my husband was a Ukena and her family also comes from Aurich as well only they didn't immigrate until the 1900s, but I'm sure we are probably cousins.

I would love to work with you to determine where we connect.
