My great great grandmother married John Uher Her name was Eva Kovak. I kind of thought it was ironic that the 2 names are so much alike Anna Novak Eva Kovak. I know they were from Germany. Think there is anything to this?

My Novaks and Uhers are definately Bohemian(Czech) and immigrated to the states and settled in Nebraska and other midwest states. Ill definately keep an eye out for the name should it appear, kinda dissappointed, was hoping there was a connection. Best Wishes ~Susan

Mine were Czechs too. My grandma is here for the weekend, I asked her. I've been researching both sides of my families and when you've got that many names and places in your head they get messed up sometimes, sorry, The village they were from was Brocka, Im not sure on the spelling. Maybe there is a connection, who knows.

Susan,
My G/Grandfather Franciszek (Frank) M. Mayeran b. 1873 in Przyroz, Czec. d. 1941 in Detroit, MI. My G/Grandmother Mary Theresa Uher b. 1881 in Michalovce, Czec. d. 11 Jan 1948 in Detroit, MI. I don't know yet where they were married. They had 10 children. My grandfather Robert Bernard Mayeran was the third oldest b. 20 May 1910 in Scarboro, W.Virgina, Fayette Co. I do know Franciszek Mayeran came thru Ellis Island his name is on the wall there. I have been unable to find Mary T. Uher's name there yet. I too am at a brick wall with the Uher's. I do have some pictures with writing on the back but they are in Czec and can't read Czec. I can't believe they both came from Czec. and I can't find her name on the list at Ellis Island. As of yet I don't even know who her parents are. I though maybe there would be a connect with your Uher's as it seems to be a uncommon name. I don't know if any other Uher's came here from Czec. Maybe we can find a connection some day.

Did your "John Uher" live in Canada? My maiden name is Uher and my dad visited a John Uher and family in Canada that I think were cousins of ours. Kovaks or Novaks were also related somehow. Not sure how.

Hi Barb,
I wondered if our Novaks are related to you in some way. I know that our Novak's came from Germany but settled in the midwest, I think Kansas.possibly Whichita. Never heard the name Uhler though. Some names would be Frank Novak, Anna Novakova, Florian Novak
