I found out a little more about my Greatgrandfather, Frank J. Uher. He also went by the name Francis. He was born in Ohio and spent most of his life, about 30 years, in the Army. retired from the Army around 1927. His first wife was a Catherine, who's buried along side him at West Point cemetery New York. They had three sons as far as I know. A Frank Uher who died around 1976 and was married to a Vivian Crowley, a Paul Uher who was born around 1916 and died around 1958 who is buried at Arlington Cemetery and a William Euchner who was also in the Army. Franks second Wife was a Anna Margret Stropes who was born 12-16-1898 in New York and Died in 1946 Ridgefield New Jersey. They had three children, Vincent Uher (my grandfather), Mary Uher who died in 1969 and was married to a William Whalen and a Robert "Bobby" Uher who died in 1971 and was married to a Muriel. if any one has any info on any of these people, please let me know. Thanks

Francis Joseph Uher was my grandfather who is buried at West Point, NY. He was married to Catherine and had two sons, Paul and Francis J. Catherine already had a daughter when she married Francis. The daughter died and is also buried at West Point. Catherine died and my grandfather then married Anna. They had three sons, Vincent, Bobby, Billy and a daughter Mary (who married Bill Whalen). Bobby married Muriel and they had two sons. Muriel was last known to be on the west coast of Florida. Bobby and Billy are both deceased. My grandfather was a instructor in the calvary at West Point. He was under the command of Teddy Roosevelt as a member of the Rough Riders in Cuba. He also was a swimming coach at West Point. Upon retiring moved to Corning NY.

John,
WOW It's like a breath of fresh air hearing from you! Your Grandfather, Francis, is my Greatgrandfather. My grandfather is Vincent (He says HELLO). I'm in the process of researching the family history for my daughther and I'm stuck with Francis. My grandfather cant remember much about Francis because he died when grandpa was only 8. We tried to send for his military records, but they could not find any (most likley burned in the big fire). I sent to Albany for Francis death certificate, but it's been 5 months with no reply yet. I makes me very proud to hear that Francis was in the Rough Riders. Would you please send me more info on Francis. His date of birth if you know, and any other info on his military career. Thank You Very Much. Vince Uher, Scranton PA

Thank you John, I really appreciate your help. Yes my Grandfather did mention your visit. He said that if he remembers correctly, you live in West Virgina(?). I was at West Point when I was very young, I plan on going back there soon. I'm also aware of Paul being buried at Arlington. I called there, but they will only confirm he's buried there, they won't provide me with any more information on him. My grandfather told me that Frank was from Ohio, but he doesnt know where in Ohio. I've been on this quest for several months now to find out about Francis and his family, anything that you can tell me would be great. I must have took out every book on the Rough Riders from the library! I've been telling every one I met since yesterday that my Greatgrandfather was a Rough Rider!!:-) My Grandfather is also excited about that, he told me that he could remember something about horses when he was small. My e-mail address is Five60@aol.com if you want to e-mail me directly. By the Way, I am going on vaction from May 26 to June 4 (north Carolina). I will try to get to a computer down there to check my e-mail Thanks Again!! Vince
