There is a SKOVIRA family name board but not much action.

Have you located Ed's church baptismal record? I would think that the church would have insisted on some information from the parents.
I can think of Iglo (Hungarian name) for Spisska Nova Ves. Take a look in www.ellisislandrecords.org as possible others SKOVIRA came to the address of your ancestor. Remember that family went to family, to a place where common language was spoken and same tradition practiced.

Maybe your ancestor was Ruthenian/Rusyn not Russian.

My sister and I were born here in the U.S.A. Our parents
and all of our relatives are from Czechoslovakia. The Slovakia part of the country. My father was a Uhal, he
had seven sisters, all still living in Slovakia.
