Darío, Norma says there were 4 Ugartes that came from Spain, 2 went to Honduras (from the line I descend) and 1 to Mexico and 1 to South America. Reading also saw that Michelle wrote that because of Political reasons, a branch of the Ugartes in Mexico had to emigrate to Peru, please contact me to see the common ancestors we have since I am crazy about knowing more of us.
Long Live the Ugartes!!!

Hello Norma,
My name is Eric Schwimmer and I am researching the history of photography in Honduras. I happened to come across the message you posted on this site in which you said your great-grandfather was Rafael Ugarte Vega. I was wondering if you know when he was born and when he died, who he was married to and how many children he had. I have found some information, in the form of ads and short news articles in old newspapers, about his photography business in Tegucigalpa; and I also have some information on his brothers. One brother, Urbano, was also in the photography business (Urbano ran Rafael’s studio in Tegucigalpa after the latter went to the North Coast. I would appreciate it if you could provide me the information I need. If you don’t have the exact date he died, even a rough estimate would be helpful, as I could look for the exact date in old newspapers. By the way, I believe Rafael was the first Honduran photographer, but not the first photographer to take pictures in Honduras. There were at least a half dozen others before him, and he may have learned the trade from one of them while he was living in Olancho.

I don't know when he was born but he died when my grandmother was about 15 and she was born in 1906. My grear grandfather never married. He had a child with Victoria Munoz (whose wedding picture he was taking) and fell in love and got pregant. Although they never married when Victoria died when her daughter was 12, Rafael had the child go live with his sister Prisca (an old maid) where she stayed until she married. Rafael's photography business was continued by his niece Marta Ugarte who has died and I believe her son continues the business.
The siblings I can remenber are Migual, Urbano,Angel(ambassador to the court of Queen Victoria), Rafael; Prisca, and I think 2 more brothers.
Any information additional information you find would be greatly appreciated.
Yes he was the first Honduran photographer not the first in Honduras, becuase there are pictures from before!!

Re: Ugarte families around the world!
Hello, family
My name is J. Ugarte and I was born in Esteli, Nicaragua. All my immediate family is from Nicaragua as well, and of course, we are descendants of Spain. I'm not sure exactly who established our name in Nicaragua, but I know that Spanish Conquistadors established Esteli back in the days. I would like to learn more about the roots associated with our last name. I believe all of us are distant cousins, so I share a piece of love with all of you.
