"This week's New York Clipper contains the following notice of the death of a well known showman who was born in this city. Francis Marian Uffner, a well known showman, died Aug. 6, at Antrim, O., from Cholera Morbus and the excessive heat. The deceased was born in Newark, O., in 1831 and had been actively engaged in the show business for the past forty-six years, during which time he had been connected with several of the leading circuses. In 1876 he secured the well known American Midgets Gen'l Mite and Lucia Zarate. He exhibited these liliputains all over this country and Europe, where he appeared many times before the crowned heads. He brought the two headed Italian Tocci twins to his country and exhibited them here. For several years Mr. Uffner had been associated with Co. T. A. Edwards, of Indian medicine fame. He leaves a widow and two daughters. Owing to the hot weather, the remains were interred at Antrim, temporarily, and will be brought to this city and buried in Woodlawn".
