My Great-Great Grandfather was William Harrison Udell. He ran away from home at the age of 15. It's said he named one of his sons Walter after a brother (who died as an infant), but I found in a census that his parents were a Henry and Martha (or Marthena). Could we have a connection? Because he ran away he may have been disowned, or not acknowledged, so maybe there are stories floating around about a long lost relative...Jus trying to find missing pieces. Thanks!

Definitely connected! I researched the Udell line due to a request from my cousin who is a great-granddaughter of Ellsworth, William's brother. She asked because she didn't know anything about the Udell side of the family except for a few things her Dad had told. He lived for awhile with his grandparents, Ellsworth and Huldah in Cincinnati. I found a document (death certificate?) for Martha which shoed her father's name was Nathan Bear. When I showed that to her, she said there had been something said about there being Indian heritage in that family. She has a cousin who is teaching on an Indian reservation in New Mexico who was quite happy to hear this because he had heard similar stories.
My cousin doesn't have a computer so if there is any message you would like to send her I'll gladly send it on.

How did you get interested in your roots, and how long have you been doing the searching?
Anyone else in your family interested also?

A cousin of your 4th? cousin,

Marilyn
