The origin of Uballe is a mystery to my family as well. I have my own theories. One theory is that it could have been easiliy been mispelled from Uvalle which is more common. When pronouncing the "v" it could be misinterpreted as "B" therefore the spelling. Since my father came from Mexico at an early age we have no knowledge or connections with hid side of the family. I do believe that the spelling is correct. A second theory is that it is Basque which I have seen spelled Uballez.
If you break it down to its first three letters which is Uba or uva that means grape and valle means valley, it could mean that the name originated from a mountainous region hence the Basque region of Spain. I hope this sheds dome light on your quest. My family live mostly in central Texas and we have now grown to a very large familiy of mostly cousin. I have seven sisters and two brothers which carry the last name and a host of nephews.

As you can see my last name is Uballez. My Father was born in Los Angeles, CA. My Grandfather was born in Kansas. I've never tried to find out information about our roots. I happened to be on the California records homepage and saw this web site and your information. Where in Mexico is your family from. My great-grandfather was born in Mexico. His name was Atilano Uballez. He was born on 8/7/1884 and died in August 1972.

Kim, I'm your cousin Adrienne. I am your great-uncle Gregory's daughter. My father died 11/17/88. His birth certificate lists his last name as "O'Valle". What I've figured out is that after they left Kansas, went back to Mexico, and made their way to California, my uncle Andy was the first to go to school and relearned to spell his name as Uballez. I've never heard Aunt Mary speak of any connection to Spain as in that other message. Anyway, Atiliano was my "Nanu". I'd love to talk to you about my memories. I'm sure I probably met you at the 97 family reunion in Glendale. I don't remember which one of my cousins you belong to! I've just started trying to get in touch with our cousin Max Uballez up in northeern Calif. Call me (818)898-7823
Talk with you soon.
Love,
cuz Adrienne

Adrienne,

I am your cousin Robert Uballez's youngest daughter. My sisters are Sandy (43) and Lisa (40). My parents moved from El Sereno in 1998 to San Dimas. My sister Sandy and her family, husband Richard Medina, son Richie (16), and daughter Brittany (13) live in Covina. My sister Lisa and her family, husband Steve Clarkson and son Wes (1) live in San Gabriel. My husband Gregory Torres, son's Nathan (10) and Daniel (6) live in Arcadia.

My uncle Maxie has a web-site www.makzrecords.com, his e-mail address is makzrecords@aol.com. I last saw him at my Grandma Della's funeral in March of 1999. It was the first time in a long time that all the brothers were together with all their families. My uncle Maxie's daughter lives in Fontana with her family and we are very close.

I really haven't dabbled much into the Uballez name, I was just trying to see what was out there. I too would love to share information. My home phone number is 626/445-5300 and my work number is 626/229-5294.

Take good care.

Your Cuz,

Kim Mari

Sorry but i don't know write in english.
