Hi Sarah M. Tyzzer: I am related to the Tyzzers of Cornwall (esp. St. Austell area) via my grandmother, Maggie Tyzzer Toy. Her father was Richard Tyzzer. There is some info. in the 1870 census. I live near Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Would be glad to exchange genealogy info. w/you. I've been told Tyzzer was originally French. Any info on this? Kathie

Re: Tyzzer Fam. in Cornwall
Hi Kathie. That was odd, I haven't been here for ages! Yes, my Dad has been researching the English Tyzzers, and he mentioned something about coming over with the French around William Conquerors time. I cannot remember exactly but will check with him. The family def. settled in Cornwall back then. Would be brilliant to track back!

Re: Tyzzer Fam. in Cornwall
Hi--
I found this site by accident and have never been on an internet geneaology site before, so I'm not sure how this works.
We are possibly distant cousins. My long-deceased grandmother was Helen Tyzzer, who grew up outside Boston, Massachusetts. Uncle Ed (founder of Tyzzer's disease) lived in Wakefield and was one of our relatives. Our family branch of the tree came over from Cornwall, and does indeed go back to France, coming to England with William the Conqueror. We do have the lineage from then to the present all written down, if you are interested.
Good to know that the Tyzzer family still thrives!
Best regards, Mary Elizabeth (Leach) Raines

Re: Tyzzer Fam. in Cornwall
Hello Mary, I too am interested in the Tyzzer family. My particular interest is Charles Tyzzer who married Mary Ann Harris in 1832 in Perranazabuloe, Cornwall. I've been tracking all the Tyzzers of Cornwall for a number of years. I'm sure they will all connect up one day. It would be terrific to obtain any further information. Cheers Sheryl West Australia

Re: Tyzzer Fam. in Cornwall
Hi, Sheryl--
Good to hear from a possible cousin! While they originated in Cornwall, my Tyzzer branch migrated to the USA quite a few years before 1832, so I don't have any information on Charles. Good luck in your search.
Best, Mary Elizabeth Raines (Granddaughter of a Tyzzer)

Re: Tyzzer Fam. in Cornwall
Hello again--
Many apologies: I wrote too quickly in my posts. I've just pulled out the formal family tree and have found, alas, that it was another branch of the family who migrated early to the USA and who accompanied Wm. the Conqueror.
My Tyzzer ancestors from the 1832 period were Josiah and Mary Ann (Roberts). Josiah's parents were Richard and Constance Tyzzer from St. Agnes in Cornwall. Does anyone have information which traces the family further back?
Ernest (Edward) Tyzzer was my grandmother's uncle, a very intelligent, cordial and dignified man. We went to visit him and his second wife, Helen (also cordial, intelligent and dignified) on his Wakefield farm in the early 1960s when I was a girl. I remember the mint growing along the driveway and my awe at the working pump which still stood in the middle of the kitchen sink. Uncle Ed had a magnificent arrowhead collection which he took pride in showing me. There were chickens outside in the yard, and one of them had been freshly slaughtered to celebrate our visit. This was a big deal to me, the moreso because of our uncle's work with poultry. I had never had chicken right from the farm before, and my mouth was watering. Unfortunately, it was the worst chicken I ever tasted in my life; I could hardly get it down!
After Uncle Ed died, my mother lived for a brief time in Wakefield with Aunt Helen, whom I liked immensely.
Best to all my cousins, Mary Elizabeth (Leach) Raines Granddaughter of Helen (Tyzzer) Leach

Re: Tyzzer Fam. in Cornwall
Hello Mary
I corresponded with you briefly in 2004 and I'm still researching the Tyzzer name. I'm curious about your reference to Richard and Constance Tyzzer being the parents of Josiah. Do you have any more information that will direct me to the source? I look forward to hearing from you. I hope you are well.
