Looking for info on Adelaide Sophia McGuire Tyvand (Adeline, Addie); born around 7/24/1876. Lived in Barton, N.Dakota.

Grandfather Tyvand was into geneaology during the 1930s and WW II. The name you specified is familiar from his research. I believe she was his aunt. What is the reason for your interest?

I am tracing my McGuire and Taft roots. Patrick McGuire married Caroline Morris Taft on 4/20/1858. Childen were Ella, Mae, Etta, Fanny, Ida Frances, Rebecca and Addie McGuire Tyvand. According to my records, Mrs. Tyvand died after giving birth to baby girl, leaving behind husband and three children. Sound familiar? Connie

Adelaide Sophia McGuire is(was?) my great-grandmother. I'm guessing you are a direct descendent of one of the other sisters?
Addie was born 7/24/1876 to Patrick and Caroline McGuire, the 7th of 8 children. All were girls. There were 2 Fannies; the first died in infancy. She married James Andrew Tyvand(b. 5/4/1868) on 3/29/1898 in Barton, ND. She died 1/1/1905. He died 8/2/1923. My grandfather was their first born. Time has dimmed my memory of the stories told by family elders in the 60s, but I do vaguely sense being told her death was at childbirth. What I vividly do recall is the acclaimed utter devotion of the youngest son (Dr. Raymond Eugene) to James's second wife, Lulu Eggleston. I spent a small amount of time with Raymond in Puyallup WA in about 1981, not long before his death. I tape recorded some of his oral family history in that visit but never transcribed it. While Raymond never married, the descendents of the other two boys, James and Calvin, along with numerous 1st and 2nd cousins, populate North America.
What documents I do have infer a lot of early and childhood death in this family. But the women must have been strong and fertile while the men stayed home alot, because there are so many branches on the Tyvand and McGuire tree.
Rather than attempt to narrate the data I have on the families, I am recording your e-mail address and will soon scan some documents and correspondence my grandfather collected in the 40s, some of which goes back to the turn of the century. I believe what I now possess is a mere remnant of the original file he compiled. It is unfortunate, because what little there is on the McGuire and Dolan clans suggests they are a most energetic and colorful bunch.
I would very much appreciate you sharing any family info you possess that I do not have. Like the other stuff I have collected along the way, I'll keep it for future reference or generations.
Regards
J.

I am a descendent of one of the other sisters. I have quite a bit on the McGuires and Tafts, and going back even farther, a lot on the Sterlings. I would be glad to send copies of this to you if you will send me your mailing address. I cannot send anything out like that on my Webtv. Connie

Adelaide Sophia McGuire Tyvand
Additional thoughts to my posting of 10/24/01:
While all three children of Addie and James Tyvand are dead, the widow of the second son (Calvin) may still be alive in North Dakota. Her name is Anna K. Tyvand, 206 Pinewood Apt #3, Rugby, ND 58368. I remember her as a nice person with a sharp mind. She would be the last of her generation who could help regarding direct knowledge of the McGuire sisters. Further, because she stayed in North Dakota, she should be aware of the descendent McGuire families because 3 of the 7 sisters married in Barton ND. I have some info on the children of Calvin and Anna, so if she isn't available and you wish to pursue that lineage, let me know.
Delia Tyvand Schartz is the only living child of Addie's first son James (my grandfather). She may be able to offer you some oral history of the McGuires. I encourage you to contact her because she is a peach. She absolutely sparkles. She has used e-mail in the past, but I can't find her current e-address. Her physical address is 53 East Park Place in Newark, Delaware 19711.
