Re: Alabama African American Tyus
Hi J'wan, My name is Kelli Tyus-Washington. My dad Phillip Tyus is from Moble Alabama. I'm very interested in the book your father has about our family, we started working on our family tree last year and I'd love to see what you have. I don't really have too much to share at this time. Hope to hear from you. Kelli

Re: Alabama African American Tyus
Hello Jwan
Hope you are still out there researching. I am researching my Tyus ancestry in Alabama. I am an African American female, looking for both black and white ancestry. My gggrandfather was Lee Tyus b.1857. Lee's mother was black and his father was white. His mother's name was Hettie Smyly and his father's name unknown. Apparently, no one wanted to discuss the paternity issue. It has only been passed down that his father was Irish. I have a picture of Lee Tyus amazingly enough! They lived in Smyly's precinct in Dallas County, AL. Many lived in Berlin and are buried at Good Hope Baptist Church. Let me know if you think there is a connection. Thanks Candace
