My husbands name is Eugene Tyus. His mother was from Prattville Al. She moved to Evansville In. about 60 years ago. Her brothers moved to the Chicago area. Sounds like a connection to me.

Lee, I would like to hear more about your Tyus history. Do you know the names of your Tyus grandparents? My Lee Tyus had a son who was Lee Tyus but he died around 25yrs old. There were other male children who may have named a son or two "Lee". I know the name resonates throughout Lee Tyus's descendents. My grandmother's name was Willie Lee, she had a brother Lee and another brother Teris Lee. So I know they didn't mind reusing the name, over and over. :-)

I'm not sure about the Tyus side of the family. But Hettie was my ggg -g? Auntie. What I've been able to ascertain from one of my oldest living relatives is that Hettie had 4 or 5 children by her Slave Master's (SMYLY) brother. I'm not sure whether her children were born in Pleasant Hill on the plantation or in South Carolina on the plantation of Daniel C Smyly's father in SC.

I'm still researching to
