Surnames: Tyson
Know some info on the Pennsylvania Tyson's near Philadelphia who were Dunkards but would like to know more. Dunkards were German Pietists similar to the Old Order Mennonites and Amish. They believe in adult Baptism. My great-grandfather's name was Isaac Tyson. There were many Tyson's in the Philadelphia area as far back as the late 17th C even before William Penn arrived, I have read. I heard from an amateur historian that many Tyson's intermarried with Quakers in the Philadelphia area. I have also read that the surname actually surfaced in France in the Middle Ages.

Would your ancestor be Isaac D. Tyson, 1874-1953? If so, this is my
grandfather's brother. My grandfather was Henry D. Tyson.

I would have to check back through records but we may be talking about the right Isaac. However, I thought my great-grandfather died in 1954. Were your family Dunkards or River Brethren? My family were from the Trappe- Royersford area, Montgomery Co. PA.

Sounds like we are talking about the right line. Yes, they were Dunkards/River Brethren.
Henry D. Tyson and Isaac's parents were buried in the cemetery of the River Brethren
church in Gratersford, now known as Perkiomen Valley Brethren Church. His father was
referred to as Reverend George G. Tyson. I have lots more info.

Where do you live? I was from Royersford PA originally. Do you have geneolgical info further back than Henry and Issac and George? I was once told that the Tyson's of PA were originally from Germantown as far back as the early 1700s and that there was intermarriage with Quakers long ago. My great-grandmother however was from Germany, at least that is listed in census I have found online.

Scott,
Can you email me directly so that I get your email address? I can be reached at ba_tyson@comcast.net.

We are descended from Cornelius Tyson. He and his brother came to Germantown in the 1700s.
The Tyson line is well documented in the book by Genevieve Kerr-Tyson, Cornelius Tyson
Descendants 1652-1986, published in 1987. Unfortunately a lot of these genealogy books do not incorporate people once you get into the 1900s. Even my father, born in 1903, didn't make it into the book, but three of his siblings did.

My family left Montgomery County in 1900 and my father was the only child of Henry and Lizzie Tyson to be born in Philadelphia. Then in 1950 my father moved the family to Bucks County, Hilltown, and that is where I grew up.

Will send more info when I get your email address.
Betty Ann Tyson

We live in Montgomery County, PA. My husband (born in 1984) is a descendant of Cornelius Tyson. His grandmother was Genevieve Kerr Tyson and he is in her book of descendants. We have a copy of the book, which has a lot of information. It would be neat to have more relatives in the area!

Cara posted message to remind me. Could you send me your email address again? I lost
