I am seeking in general the Scottish surname origins of Tyrie. I am looking to understand where in Scotland my ancestors may have come from. Emigration routes @ later 1700's and early 1800's. I know this request is kind of cryptic but I would welcome any info or advise.
Thanks

Not sure if this will be of any help, but my great grandfather left Glasgo, Scotland in 1892. His name was David Glass Tyrie, and he left Scotland and then settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania USA. I am just now trying to track my ancestors. Not sure if this will help you any, but if so, please contact me.

TYRIE from Montrose, Angus
Montrose's War Memorial shows the following soldier killed during WW1:
David P. TYRIE, Distinguished Conduct Medal, Sergeant 365952, 67th Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery; died on Friday 1st June 1917, age 26. Son of David & Eliza TYRIE of Montrose and husband of Catherine Ann Pert TYRIE of 40 Southesk Street, Montrose, Angus.
The information may eventually help someone in their search.

Linda:
My Tyries were early to America in the late 1700's. I see that yours came later but is there a connection ? My family settled in around Virginia originally to the best of my knowledge. Slowly by generations they migrated northwesterly into Kentucky then Indiana by the early-mid 1800's.
The oldest know is Benjamin Tyrie either born here or in Scotland @ mid-late 1700's.
Thanks

James, I believe you Benjamin Tyrie my be directly related to my oldest know relation. He was William Tyree who arrived from England in the mid-late 1700's. He was born before 1727. His descendents started out in VA, then KY, MO, and IN (this is the line that I have the most verfied facts on). I would like to collaborate our family histories and see if we can find a connection. Please contact at the email address

My surname orginated from the isle of tiree and was anglicised to Tyrie when they came to england. My father is john joseph william tyrie, my grandfather was William Richard Tyrie and his father had the same name as him. I am trying to go further back so if anyone can help.

Lisa, was your father's name Clyde? If so, my dad and he are brothers.

James - your posting is old now. However, did you, by chance, find a relative name of Edith, who emigrated to Canada. Her family came from the Aberdeen and Dundee area, and were associated with the Royal Family.
