Hi, Lisa
I am related to an Andrew Jackson Tirey. He had a son, Joseph who was my great great great grandfather.Joseph He had a brother name Samuel. We can't find any earlier Tireys, than Andrew Jackson Tirey. Joseph also had a son name Andrew Jackson Tirey "Uncle Andy" Out of the blue my uncle was on the message board, so maybe if we can start an dialog we may have some answer. there is a small villiage not far from rosehearty ( near aberdeen ) that is called tyrie. I have never heard before that the name came from TIree. I live in Scotland and my maiden name is Tyrie.

I have found four different spelling of the family name: Tirey, Tyree, Tyrie and Tiree all in the same family trees. Changes upon immigration were common. Also census takers and clerks would often spell a name the way they saw fit if the person was illiterate. However, I did find one record of a contested will that caused a large part of the family to start spelling their name different.

My Tyries are from Perth Scotland to Virginia sometime in the early 1700s.

Jackie,

I do not know how much research you have done with your family tree, but I was wondering if you have heard of an ancester by the name of Jesse Tyrie, born in Perth, Scottland, 1668 and came to North America around 1690s.
supposedly he is linked to my family tree (Tyree) here in USA as the first Tyrie to come over.... ?

thanks, Calvin

Hello, your message was several years back, but I am just reading it. My maiden name was Tyrie. My grandparents came from Forfar, they were William and Margaret Tyrie. They came to America in 1906 and settled in Bradford, MA, a section of the city of Haverhill, MA. My brother and I have done a Tyrie family tree on Ancestry.

Your Lucky, Your a Tyrie/Tyree that can trace your roots directly to Scotland with relative ease, it sounds like. I have family that have been here from the early 1700s, which I have a lot of information on, and I have a lot of information on the Tyries in Scotland, but the direct link/person to come over here is weak...It has been said it was a Jesse Tyrie, born in Perth Scotland, 1668 and came over to America around 1698... I have not seen a document to back this up or has anyone stated how it was concluded. Anyway, I do have some information on the Tyries in Scotland. They lived in the area of Perth... Get back with me and I can send you some things. I would like to view your family tree if I could....

thank you, Cal

Hi Cal, did you send two messages? I just replied to the one where you said you could give me Tyrie info. Oh well, yes I am lucky to be able to trace my roots. Our tree is the Tyrie/Flanders tree and starts with my brother Wm. Warren Tyrie, then go to his father Arthur, then Grampie - Wm. G.N.Tyrie. If you can't get to it, let me know and I will have Bill invite you. May I suggest that you go to www.scotsfamily.com. We went thru this website to find the Tyrie history. They ask for a deposit by credit card or check; if they don't find anything they don't charge. We paid $180 for Grampie's info and rec'd a letter and a booklet with all the records pertaining to him. Then we had Grammie done, and paid $150 for her history. It was well worth it and they do it within two weeks. We worked with a Brian Thomson, there is someone there named Morven Buchanan - she is a girl and the first time I wrote I addressed her as Mr. Buchanan. Oops! These people are based in Edinburgh and are familiar with records over there.

I'm connected to Tyries from that area too. One of my ancestors was a Jean Tyrie, born in 1811 in Dunkeld, Perthshire. She lived in Redgorton later in life. She married an Andrew Small, also from Redgorton. They had a son, David, born in 1833 or so, who came to New York in 1853; he's my ancestor. According to U.S. Census records, David was born in Ireland, but the Scottish Census has him in Redgorton in 1841 so I guess the family moved back and forth.

I don't know a heck of a lot about them, most of what I just wrote I found in my research here, if there are any Tyries or Smalls out there who know more I'd love to hear it.
