Is there any evidence that the Tyree's from NC/TN had native american blood? My ancestor Jesse Vowell Tyree, Sr. had brothers Joseph and George. Jesse settled in Walker Co., AL and md. Martha Tittle from NC. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Tyree Indian Heritage?
I've never found any proof of the Tyree line having any Indian Heritage, but that doesn't mean there isn't any. It is so hard to try to follow up due to the lack of papaer records, Just word of mouth. Who are Jesse Vowell"s parents? Both these names appear thruoghout my Tyree line.

Re: Tyree Indian Heritage?
I don't know if it is the same Jesse Tyree, but my gg grandfather was Jesse Tyree, and our family line is from the TN/NC family line, do you know is the the same Jesse Tyree that was a Baptist minister. I know this Tyree line had Indian Heritage, and if this is the same Tyree line I have history on the family. Not sure if there was a George, that sounds familiar, but all my information is packed right now ( we just moved). If you would like and this could be the same family I could try looking through papers to find info. I know right off the top of my head there was a son Jesse Jr if that is any help.

Re: Tyree Indian Heritage?
Never heard of the Baptist minister part, but that's not to say it isn't true. My Jesse came to AL circa 1820 and lived to be 103. His wife was Martha Patsey Tittle. Stay in touch once you get settled.

Re: Tyree Indian Heritage?
i'm also interested in this line. my paternal grandfather was J.J. Tyre/Tyra, born in Walker Co., i have no dates of birth or death for him. but the 1910 census says he was 39, which would be born abt. 1871
according to what i found at the library in Jasper, there were two Jesse V. 's who claimed to be sons of Jesse Sr. and Martha. one was born in 1810 the other in 1820.......why would a couple name two sons exactly the same name? the first one went to Ms. the other stayed in Al., he married Eliza Files. this Jesse 's picture was in the Heritage Book of Walker Co. and there is a remarkable resemblence in my dad to this Jesse. my father passed away in 1976. no one seems to know anything or wants to claim to be descendants of Jesse Sr.'s brother Joseph, although he is in the 1820 Lawrence Co. census with possbily a wife and a child. along with Jesse Sr. and some of Martha's Tittle family.

Re: Tyree Indian Heritage?
I learned of the other son b. 1810 as well. Some have suggested he may be a son by another woman, illegitimate by a slave or Indian. Or some have said he may be Joseph's son, not Jesse Sr. I have info on Joseph; it was he that started reporting the family history. I have a picture of him. Jesse's first daughter, Irene or Irena, b. 1815 was my ggg gd. mother. So we never got to the Indian part. Was there Indian heritage or not?

Re: Tyree Indian Heritage?
i honestly don't know. some say that Jesse Sr.'s wife, Martha Tittle may have been Choctaw, but as far as i know, there is no proof.

Re: Tyree Indian Heritage?
I was always told there is Cherokee Indian, but I just received an email that it may be Choctaw Indian, so I am not sure which it is.
