Surnames: Tyra, Perry, Elkins (Mrs. Perry later married and Elkins)
Grandaughter of John M. Tyra and Lillian Beatrice (Billings) Tyra. John's Father was Elisha and Mother was Mrs. M.E. (Perry) Tyra. Other children were Oscar Tyra and Leona (oldest sister), Annie (?), Lewis and maybe another, not sure. Oscar had two son's: Glenn and Leonard who was killed on a bicycle. Glenn was living in California a few years ago, but lost communications. I know he was a diabetic and would be in his upper years. My mother Ruth Tyra used to keep in touch but she is in a rest home and has suffered a severe stroke which has paralyzed her thinking and speaking capabilities. She has one brother still living. I have not gotten much information on family, but do have some pictures if you can give me more definite information what you're looking for and who your father and grandfather were, then I would be willing to share with you.

Hello, my name is Debra Chancey Rodriguez and I am searching for my ancestors and I am looking for information on Oscar Tyra and his wife Velma Clara Purvis (my 3rd cousin 1x removed).

Oscar Tyra is the son of Elisha McDonal Tyra (1859-1903) buried in Tarpley Cemetery, Texas.

I believe Oscar and Velma Clara had 2 sons (1) Glenn and (2) Victor Leonard. I can only find birth information on Victor Leonard.

Oscar and Velma Clara were living in California. Would anyone have any information?

Debra, my granfather (John Marshall) and Oscar were brothers. There were 8 children according to my records. Nannie Francis, b. Jan. 1886; William M., b. Nov.1888; Oscar S., b. Sept. 1891; Jesse Clarence, b. May 1893; Rosa L. b. Oct. 1894; Errel (or Errol) C. b. Mar. 1897; John M., b. Jan. 1899 ( I don't think this dateis correct, will have to check my actual records) and Louis Elisha b. Jan. 23 1903
This info was given to me by Yvonne Tyra from Phoenix. Did you know who she was. I had met her through Ancestry also and was just beginning to correspond with her when she had a stroke. Didn't hear back and was checking records and I believe have found her death record as June 26, 2011. I had last emailed her on June 24. Just couldn't believe it. Don't know who to contact as she had several pictures and an album she wanted me to have. If you know of any of these relatives in Phoenix (Maricopa Co.) Az. let me know. I so want these. I don't think she had any children, but someone had to have cleaned out her things. Not sure on some of the dates as these came from her. I will have to check dates on John m. I was looking tonight and found Oscar and Clara living in Bandera in the 1930 census. No children showing up. There was about 8 yr. difference in my grandad and he so I think my grandad had moved with Mattie back to Az. after Elisha died (1903). Buried in Tarpley cemetary supposedly. I am going down to see my Mother next week and will try to look this up. Will also visit with my uncle (John's son) to see if he can help me fill in blanks. Not sure he can. My mother might could have, but she has had a stroke and is in rest home. I do have a pict. of Oscar and one of Leona (Rosa L.) I think this must be. She was a very pretty lady. and Oscar was a hansome man. He was the closest to my grandad from what I had heard. They visited them in Az. once or twice. Explain who and how you are related, where you are living now and a little about yourself. Then I will get back with you. Good to find some more relatives. Ruth Ann
