I'm looking for the descendants of John Tyra and Mary Kurka Tyra, both born in Poland in about the 1860's. They immigrated to the US sometime around 1900 and lived in St. Louis, MO. Children were: Julia Tyra Rubczak b. Dec. 14, 1884 in Pozori, Poland and Stanley Joseph Tyra b. Oct. 9, 1887 in Poland. Julia Tyra Rubczak lived in St. Louis, MO and Stanley Joseph Tyra lived in Florida and Detroit, MI. My ggrandmother (John Tyra's sister) was Kunegunda (Mary) Tyra Smetoski born February 12, 1866 in Poland and died May 2, 1941 in Ft. Smith, AR. She married Frank Smetoski and had 3 children: Anna Smetoski Rounds b. April 12, 1897 in Germany, Bruno (Bertha) Smetoski Cannon b. about 1903 in St. Louis, MO and my grandmother, Clara Smetoski Miles Karrant born January 6, 1907.

Julia Tyra Rubczak was my maternal grandmother. My mother Amelia Rubczak Franks (her daughter) died July 17, 1968. I am Amelia's only child. I was born Dec. 22, 1936. Julia had four daughters and two sons: Helen, Regina, Jack, Amelia, Julia and Raymond. Only Raymond is still living. He has two children: Eleanor Rubczak Caldwell (born 1952 and has two children) and Steven Rubczak (born 1954 and has two children).

Let me know if you want more information of Julia's deceased children.

Leroy, thank you so much for your reply--what a Christmas present! Did you know any of Mary Tyra Smetoski's daughters, Anna, Bertha or Clara? Clara was my grandmother. She died in 1965 at the age of 58. My mother, Josephine Clara Miles Brown, was her only child. Anna adopted a daughter and Bertha never had any children. I have a lot of information and pictures to share and many questions to ask. Thanks again for your reply.

I believe we are related. My grandfather was Joseph Tyra born in St Louis to John and Mary. His older sister was Julia and brother Stanley. He lived in Michigan and Uncle John did also. Hope you still check your mail here.

We are cousins. My grandfather Joseph is Julia's brother. They all moved to Michigan sometime after 1910. I think Julia was already married.

If you do a 1920 census search on Trya in michigan it shows John and Mary and John (21) still living with them. Julia' daughter may of been named after Joseph's wife Amelia. John lived in Saginaw and Joseph in Detroit & West Branch. John & Mary lived in Arenac county. My mom remembers them as being very poor never able to catch a break. 1900 census for John and Maria shows the family in St Louis with all children down to Joseph. 1910 census shows them still in St Louis with another child Michael who is 4 years old. I remember my grandfather telling me he had a younger brother who was killed when running errands for a neighbor, he stepped of the sidewalk and was run over by a wagon. This would fit with Michael since there is no other record for him. The 1920 census shows they immigrated in 1893 and were naturalized in 1896.
