I am looking for any information on Tymessens in New York State. I am descended from a Cornelius Tymessen, born c1665, who was married to Maritie Ysbrantse. They had a son Eldert Tymessen born c1689, married Hester Visscher on 7 Nov 1709. They had a daughter Maritje Tymessen (dates unknown) who married Nicholas Groot on 16 Jun 1732, and had a daughter Rebecca Groot, born c1735 probably around Schenectady, New York. Any Tymessen information at all is appreciated. I am willing to share information.

Hi,
My mother's maiden name is Tymeson. i am pretty sure that it was changed to this spelling at some point. Maybe it used to be spelled the way you are looking for. They lived in Northern NJ. What do you think?

Sounds like it may be possible. Do you know if your mother's family was Dutch, or any lines back from there? Thanks, Mary

I know there is some Dutch in my heritage. But, I called my mother after I replied to you and she thought the name had been originally spelled 'Tjhmeson'. No one could spell it or pronounce it so they changed it to Tymeson when they came to America. I think there could still be a connection though, maybe a different part of the family changed it again at a different time. It is such an unusual name to have two spellings pronounced the same.

I am searching the Tymenson line to find the ancestors of Mary Tymenson who married my ancestor, Benjamin Lansing in 1799. Tymenson is also found as Tymerson, Timenson, Tymesse, and others. Information on the Tymerson house in Niskayuna betrween Albany and Schnectady plus some genealogy can be found in "Forts and Firesides of the Mohawk Country: by John J. Vrooman. Other sources include Jonathan Pearson in "Genealogies of the First Settlers of Albany" and the same of Schnectady. I can provide more information if this is of interest. E. DeTiere

Hello,
I'm looking for any information on a Peter Tymerson/Timerson/Timeson. I've found a Peter T. in the 1840 Schenectady, NY census and the Peter T. in the 1850 Broadalbin, Fulton, NY census is the one I'm looking for. In 1850 his age was listed as 51, with wife Elida, 46, son Martin 15, daughter Ann 12, daughter Evaline?, 7 all born in NY. In the Gazatteer of Montgomery and Fulton Counties 1869-1870, Martin Timason of Broadalbin was listed as a butcher. Any clues about Peter or Elida?
Thanks,
Kirsten
Thanks,
Kirsten

The only Peter Tymesen I have from the 1800's was born in Niskayuna July 19, 1861, son of Eldred and Elizebeth Groat Tymeson. He married Adriane Hegeman on June 27, 1888. Source: Schnectady county History by A. A. Yates.
There is also a Peter born Feb. 1, 1794, son of Eldert and Catalyntie Van Eps probably in Niskayuna. Source: Pearson-Genealogies of the First Settlers of Schnectady.
Neither of these appear to connect for you. Good Hunting.

I just came across your 2000 posting.

My great grandmother, born Esther Cecelia Tymeson, according to newspaper clippings, had a nephew, Walter Tymeson, who was a doctor living in New Jersey. He was the son of her brother Heman Tymeson and his wife, the former Dora Roberts.

Do you know anything about your mother's family that would help determine whether there is a connection between our Tymesons?

Hi. I have been struggling to find ancestors of Charles Timerson, b ~1808-1810 Montgomery Co, NY, per various census records.

A biographical sketch of a ggrandson, Frank Barrington, St Joseph, MO, 1883, indicates that Charles b 1808-1810 father was also Charles Timerson (? sp), and his mother was Mary Holcomb/e of Whitehall, Washington Co NY. Biosketch indicates that Timerson family had Revolutionary War Service...(although the way it was worded, it may be that the Holcomb or Blanchard lines were involved). Biosketch says that the TImerson family were Huguenots.
(reference citation http://members.aol.com/buchanancomo/barringtonf.html )

I find Charles Timerson and wife Marjorie Blanchard (b 1806-1810 Montgomery/Herkimer Co), in Cayuga Co census 1830-1875.

Charles died in 1875 and is buried in Martville Cemetery, Cayuga Co. No death date or place found for Marjorie.

Do any of your research notes indicate a Charles or others who were in Cayuga Co by 1830?

Many thanks for any ideas!

Regards,

Surnames: Timeson, Tymeson, Tymessen, Helme
I rescued an old bible which has the name Gertrude Timeson born May 11, 1848 and married on March 14, 1867 to Christian Helme born July 11, 1845. Their children are listed. In trying to locate the family members I discovered a misspelling of the more common Timeson into Tymeson. The above lived, apparently, in Schenectady New York area but my interest is trying to determine which family so bible goes to proper family. I believe these names are related to one another without question: Tymessen, Tymeson, and Timeson. In addition to New York and England there may be a couple of them in San Diego Ca area. Most are NY in the mid to late 1800's.
