James Tylee and Edward Tylee information
It is assumed that James Tylee (1750 - 1826) late of New York City and Edward Tylee (1757 - 1850) late of Van Buren, NY were brothers. Both men were born in New York City and both fled the city in about 1777 to Connecticut when the British took control in the American Revolution. Both men were merchants. and both had sons name James and grandsons named Edward. However, research is complicated by the fact that James Tylee's son Daniel E. Tylee married Catharine Ellis and Edward Tylee's son Edward B. Tylee married Jane Eliza Leaycraft, the daughter of Elizabeth (Ellis) Leaycraft the sister-in-law of Daniel E. Tylee and Edward B Tylee was the attorney who brought suit on behalf of sisters Jane Dewey and Elizabeth Leaycraft against Daniel E. Tylee concerning the property that Samuel Ellis willed to Catharine Ellis. This relationship creates a problem when looking at a 1833 deed in Lysander, Onondage, NY as both Daniel E. Tylee and Edward B. Tylee and his wife Jane Eliza hold a mortgage of land of Chaucey Betts who was the cousin of Edward B. Tylee.

He was a delegate to the convention at Burlington which had something to do with forming Iowa Territory.
In Van Buren co., IA, he served as coroner, justice of the peace, county treasure, and deputy sheriff, holding the latter office in 1845 when he died.

He was later a Lawyer in New York City and husband of Jane Eliza (Leaycraft) Tylee, the daughter of Elizabeth (Ellis) Leaycraft the sister of Catharine (Ellis) Tylee. The New York Evening Post stated Edward B. Tylee Esq. the son of Edward Tylee of Van Buren formally of Troy. In that notice it is difficult to say if he was 51, 57 or 59 years old at his death. Ancestry.com has this record, but mistakenly state his birth as 1797 a review of The New York Evening Post for 15 Dec 1848 would confirm a date. There is a Edward B. Tylee with a record dead in 1861 buried next to Jane Eliza Tylee in Brooklyn, NY, however, in the 1855 census Jane E. Tylee is listed as a widow running a boarding house in New York City and in 1858 Jane E Tylee is listed as the widow of Edward B. in the New York City directory.

Carlisle D. Tylee of Plattsburgh, NY in 1811, Champlain, NY in 1807 and Grand Isle, VT in 1805. He was a merchant and was associated with Edward and James Tylee of Troy
John T. Tylee (1828 -1901) is stated in Edward Tylee's 1848 will as being his son, but that would seem implausible.
1st, by age Edward Tylee would have been 71 years old in 1828.
2nd, In the 1830 census, Edward Tylee in Lysander has no males listed under 10 years old, but by 1840 does have a male listed of John T. Tylee's age.
3rd in later census John T. Tylee does state he was born in Onondaga county, NY, but states his parents were both born in Vermont.
In Edward Tylee's will it states: I also would say that I gave my son John Terrence Tylee his time from July 19th A.D. 1847 until he becomes of a age, therefore all things that he procures shall be legally his.
