I have a family bible give to Catharine Wing Tylden in 1847. She married Thomas B. Tylden in 1852. The Tylden history is written in the bible but I cannot make much sense from it..looking for help to sort out these Tyldens (if it is possible) (Sir John M. Tylden who died May 18, 1866 at the family seat Milsted Manor in County Kent; Major General___ John Tylden Retired died at Tumbridge Hall in 1866; 5th Marmaduke Tylden who died in September 1825 or 1826. I know that others have said that this family tree is very tangled. My family branch lived in the Philadelphia area.

You're absolutely right about the tortuous confusion.

The Tyldens you list appear to be from Kent County, England, not Kent County, MD, though every TILDEN researcher believes the families are one in the same. Milsted Manor was an ancestral home to Tyldens (see http://www.google.com/search?num=100&hl=en&newwindow... )

The family on both sides of the Atlantic showed a fanatic propensity to perpetuate the names, John, Charles, Thomas and Marmaduke, though I will say the Marmaduke moniker seems to be limited to the Maryland members, not the Situate, MA, members.

The names you mentioned don't ring an immediate bell with me, but I'm always interested in contemporaneous primary-source material about Tildens/Tyldens. Can you share more, either on-line or off?

I will be happy to share. I will get my sister (who has possession of the bible to photocopy info and I will scan and send. The Wing Family appears to have originally come from the Massachusetts area but my branch settled in Philadelphia where Catharine Wing married Thomas B Tylden in 1852. I am still trying to get a copy of the marriage license and some more census data.

I am also curious about the information contained in the bible. For some time, I have been researching the Tilden family in Kent County, Maryland. I have come across some information on Thomas Bowers Tilden who was born in 1798, and served in the U.S. Navy for many years. His grandfather, Marmaduke Tilden, owned a large estate in Kent County. Thomas inherited a portion of this estate following Marmaduke's death in 1816. Could this be the same person?

It is very possible. I am at work and don't have my information from the family bible here. I will send you the details that I do have by tomorrow. My connection is through Thomas's wife whose family was from Philadelphia.

Yes that is the Tilden I was referring to. The marriage to Catharine Robertson Wing was without issue. I have found additional information in a book about First Families of Eastern Shore (Maryland).

Does the bible include any personal information pertaining to Thomas? What was the date of his marriage? When did he pass away? Where is he buried?

Ifyou can provide a copy of your ible's tree information I believe that I may be able to help. I'vassembled a well sourced Tilden tree in an effort to find the missing link to my GGgrandfather, Joseph B Tilden, born Maryland, lived Philadelphia and California.
