Joseph Tygart married Jane Galloway in 1829 In Henry Co. IN. I am interested in his origin. Our family history would suggest that it is Ohio, with earlier origins in Virginia.

Bob, I would like to correspond with you on the Tygerts/Tigerts. I am looking for ancestors of John Tygert born about 1755 I think in Maryland then his children come to Virginia and then West Virginia.

Sue , my Tygarts always hve spelled it with an A,not an E. They also apparently came from England in Late 1700s. There is prabably no connection.

I have extensive information on the early history of the Tygart clan in Tygart Valley West Virginia. Although spelled many ways, the Tygarts originated in Ireland - of the Maclintaggart clan - and were Priests to the Ross clan. There were Tygarts that settled in the Tygart Valley in 1753 in West Virginia. There was a tradition of Itinerant Methodist Ministers among the Tygart, documentation of many marriages, births and baptisms are available. Tygarts were found to cross the Ohio from Southwest Penn. in the 1790's early 1800's. My family is from Pittsburgh. If I can help, write to me.

Linda, I have been researching my wife's Tygart line for some time but am stuck in 1820 Darke County, Ohio. Your post is the first encouragement I've seen. Samuel Tygart is enumerated in Washington Twp., Darke Co., Ohio in 1820, from a family bible his wife was Elizabeth. Gateways to the West lists a marriage between Elizabeth Sammas and Samuel Tygart in Ross Co., Ohio in 1806.
The 1820 census shows 4 sons, the youngest two Are John and Andrew Tygart who married into the Catt family in Randolph and Hancock Co., Indiana, then in 1854 moved to Iowa. My wife is a descendant of John Tygart and Catherine Catt. The boys stated on future census' that their father was born in PA. and on one Delaware. Do you have any info that might help me move this family back to previous generations?

We have long wondered ourselves but have not found descendants of Joseph Tygart to confirm that this known resident of the area was in fact related to the brothers John and Andrew Tygart. Correspondence with the late Dr. Robert Tygart certainly pointed in that direction. John Tygart named his second son Joseph as did Andrew. Please contact me at paf2@murlin.com

I'm doing research on Kentucky explorer Michael Tygart. Do you know:
1. His father's name?
2. His mother's name?
3. Was he married? Have children?
4. Factual account of his demise?

Thank you for your help.
