Tyers Families

I have some family history for Charles James Tyers b:13 Sep 1806 Westminster London d:20 Sep 1870 Melbourne m:Georgina Caroline Scott b:1826 Inverness. He was Commissioner of Crown Lands in Victoria and Place Names "Tyers" and "Lake Tyers" are named after him. I am seeking his earlier family info in the hope I can connect him with other Tyers Lines i.e "William Tyers and Sarah Ann Blades" and perhaps "Stephen Tyers and Anne Dunkley" Somewhere back in time there is a possible connection with the Savage Family where Thomas and James Savage changed their names by Royal Licence from Savage to Tyers to inherit the money of their maternal grandmother, their mother having been Matilda Tyers. This info comes from a pocket book written in September 1960 by Captain C. Tyers, R.N. who we have not been yet been able to connect. The author suggests there is also a connection to Jonathan Tyers who owned Vauxhall Gardens. A mutual sharing of info re these families would be much appreciated.

The family of Jonathan Tyers, the proprietor of Vauxhall Gardens, died out in the male line in the 18th century - his descendants were in 1900 called Slade. 'Tyers' was sometimes used as a second forename (e.g. Jonathan Tyers Barrett) in the 19th century, but I have seen no evidence of this continuing. Jonathan Tyers himself was one of three children, the other two being girls. I have a MS family tree, prepared by Commander A.S.Tyers in 2002, of the family that includes Stephen (d.1790), and Matilda who married Talbot Savage. Their son Thomas changed his name to Tyers.

I too have the 1960 Savage-Tyers booklet and have put the information into my Family Tree system (Family Historian - highly recommended). I am descended from Harriet Tyers, Seymour Tyers' eldest sister. I have found some additional information on the Tyers side. I am very interested in getting the updated booklet in any form.

I am looking for John Tyers the father of Charles James born 1806 in London and moved to Australia, who is an ancestor of my daughter in law in Australia. You mentioned a book by Captain C Tyers printed in 1960 - have you any more details on this please.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does anybody know of a Captain W.O Tyers? He was Captain of SS Manipur around 1914.
If so, I have some remarkable information!
