Surnames: TYERS EDWARDS BASTARD SHANNON O'SHANNON
I am researching my gt gt grandfather William Edward TYERS. Family legend has it he came from Glynton England running away from home to South Australia. Glynton does not appear in the atlases I have checked. He was born about 1842 and married Elizabeth Lucy BASTARD (widowed by Frederick Eugene O'SHANNON also known as just SHANNON) on 6 July 1879 in Adelaide. They had one daughter, Eva Constance on 14 Feb 1882, my gt grandmother. She died 21 Jan 1977 at Grange, SA.

William Edward TYERS changed his name to just William EDWARDS to evade home (whatever happened there). William died 1 July 1917 and is buried in the North Road Cemetery and Elizabeth died 5 Feb 1919 and is buried in the West Terrace Cemetery.

I am trying to trace his arrival in Australia and find out his parents.

I've noticed a mention of a William TYERS who came to South Australia on this board but that one was born too early in 1828 and married a Sarah so he is not a match.

I have a William Edwards TYERS, born 21 May 1861 in Dudley, Worcestershire. (son of Joseph Tyers and Mary Edwards). --- By 1871 the family had moved to Leicester, where Joseph was a Builder, son William was aged 10 years and living at home.

1881 (son) William Edwards Tyers is NOT at home with his parents.
(he may be living in London as a Bricklayer, but we're not 100% sure)
1881 (mum) Mary Tyers, formerly Edwards died.
1882 (dad) Joseph Tyers, widower, remarries, Mary Ann Newton, widow.
13th Nov. 1882 (son) Thomas TYERS, carpenter, born 1863 in Leicester, Eng. arrived in Port Adelaide, S.A., per. "Harbinger," from London. (departed 20 Aug 1882). -- Thomas moved to Victoria, where he married and fathered 13 children.

My Tyers lived in Leicestershire. Came from Wing, Rutland, and began in Stamford, Lincolnshire.

To find Thomas Tyers entry into S.A., the only records found were via TROVE / NLA Newspapers. This was only found because he named one of his sons after the ship he arrived on, and we had a small time window that we knew when he immigrated.

--- Another way would be to check editions of ; Biographical Index of South Australians 1836-1885. --- As these should list your Tyers Family, and as copies updated they listed arrival years, ship name, occupation, children, ect........ Another-words, check more than just one edition. ;-)

Glynton England ?? ... Not sure on that one [-_-] but the majority of Tyers were English.
