Marilyn,

Robert W. Barnes, "British Roots of Maryland Families," (Baltimore: Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc., 1999), Page 432 lists that Robert TYDINGS had children 13 baptized at St. Nicholas, London (9 sons, 4 daughters), including a John TYDINGS who was baptized 7 Oct. 1582.

It is "assumed" that this son John is the same John with wife Margaret who had 5 children baptized at St. Mary White Chapel, Stepney (Margaret 1611, Helen 1614, Jame 1617, Susan 1622 and Richard 1625).

As Barnes states, what is to be determined is if this Richard is the same as the one in MD. If it is, then he would have been at least 46 when his oldest child Charity was born, she being under 16 when Richard wrote his will in 1687.

If Richard is from this TYDINGS family, I'm more inclined to think he was a grandson of John, maybe through his son James born 1615, with Richard born about 1638, or maybe through one of the other 8 sons of Robert.

Note also that John's wife was Margaret, not Ann as stated in the original query. That John's wife was Ann apparently comes from the book by Charles Brashear where he got 100 years off, and tried to make the immigrant Richard as born 6 (sic) Dec. 1654 in All Hallow's Parish, when the actual record is Richard TYDINGS born 4 Dec. 1754 to John and wife Ann.

Thanks, Rick, that's very good information. I think you are correct that the Richard who made his will in 1687 naming five minor children was a relatively young man. He could have even been born around 1650, which would make him about 37 when he made his will. I know she's only POSSIBLY a sister of Richard TIDINGS, but we've estimated John BELT's wife Elizabeth's birth year as 1660, since second son Joseph said he was b. ca. 1680, and she had a child bpt. 1703, by her second marriage, to John LAMB, m. 25 July 1701, All Hallows.
