Re: Twyman slaves of Madison County VA
Hello,
By any chance would you be familiar with Margaret Twyman Cave who was born a slave in Locust Dale in 1854? I discovered her name while conducting research on my family tree. She was my paternal great-grand mother who was married to the late Rev. Daniel Cave, a Baptist minister in Madison Virginia.
Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Re: Twyman slaves of Madison County VA
I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with Margaret Twyman. I too have hit a wall in obtaining information about my great grandmother, Evaline Twyman. The only information I have come across is from the census.
Good Luck.

My great grandfather on my mothers side is named John Twyman. He came to Pittsburgh PA in the early 1900s. He married Martha Hopkins, their children were Sarah, Almedia, Juanita, and Grace (my grandmother)

Re: Twyman slaves of Madison County VA
I've just started digging into my family history. We're distantly related. My maternal side has Twymans from Piedmont, WV. We spent many summers there. Columbus Twyman is my second great grandfather. I'm pretty sure some of the reason people moved to Piedmont long ago is due to the paper mill near by in Maryland (opened in the late 1800's).

Re: Twyman slaves of Madison County VA
Hi I am one of the Twyman's from Chester county Pa. My Grandfather built a house in Kelton Pa, near Lincoln University an historic Black College. My Grandfathers name was Hubert Twyman He married Flora Peterson. These are the names that I grew up knowing. I was born in 1958. Mim Dixon, John L Twyman . My gmother and g aunt ,sisters, married two Twymans Hubert and John L.) Peters and Petersons,Dixson and Dixon,Dickinson,Crampton,Cubbage,Carter, Rochester, because they inter married. Also Thompson and Lee. Now John L Loyd took the name Twyman because he was raised with my grandfather,Hubert Twyman. But the Story goes that he was really a taylor. And I remeber a relative of ours who used to visit often and we called her Topsy Taylor. So I would add Taylor to the names I remember also. Why our folks stopped talking about family they left in the south I don't know. I imagine there were some shameful secrets they felt we didn't need to know. Up here we are in Lancaster of Lancaster county Pa,Oxford,Coatesville,Chester,Parkesburg,Reading of Chester County,Philadelphia just to name a few. Also Delaware to get you started. Please let me know if you find out anything more. My Sister Angela Lloyd is on Facebook and she has been reaching out to Twyman's. you will see many Twyman's in her Friends list. Thanks Odette (also known as Birdie, Helena Twyman's first child) LOL

Hi I'm researching the Twyman family for my aunt Audrey Tutt Smith. Her grandparents were William Tutt and Ella Twyman Tutt. Ella was the daughter of Columbus Twyman. Any info on his family would be greatly appreciated. Sharon d.Outlaw (Cyrus/Outlaw Family of page county, va and Fauquier county va)
