It's been claimed that he was ancestor to all Twyford/Twiford lines in America. His abstracted will lists four sons: William, James, Bartholomew, and John. If you can trace your line to one of them, please post here. If you can document it, even better. It would be great if we could post links to online sources, too.
It seems likely that the family spread up the Delmarva peninsula during the colonial period.

I grew up on the eastern shore until I was twenty years old. My Grandfather's name was Watson Twyford married Ann Douglass their only son Doug Twyford is my father. I am at the hospital about to deliver the last namesake from this branch. Still haven't completely decided on a first name. I never met my Grandfather Watson, he died when my father was only 17. I wish I knew more about his ancestry and names related. Running out of time!

There's a Watson Twiford in the 1940 census in Onancock. Is that your grandfather? His parents were George Thomas and Mattie W and a sister was Ethel. His birth is about 1915.

Best of luck with your new child!

Yes, I must have been right. Your grandfather Henry Watson Twyford married Ann Harriman Douglass in 1941. Your father was given his mother's maiden name, just as your grandfather was. It appears also, then, that Watson's grandfather was was Purnell O(uten) Twyford, who must have been named for a much earlier ancestor.

Yes this is all accurate, thank you for your response and the information. Only thing I heard different was Purnell's middle name was pronounced (O Bed I) don't know how he spelled it.
Thank again, Mike

No, I think you are right about the second Purnell's middle name, it's the first one, HIS grandfather that was Purnell Outten Twyford. So your line does connect to the first Twyford, i.e. Michael, Douglass, Watson, George, Purnell, Revell, Purnell, Robert (whose wife was Tabitha Outten), Daniel, Bartholomew and the first arrival, William, your 8th great grandfather.

The Twiford's in NE NCarolina come from Bartholomew's sons. I read where there were 2 Twifords (Robert and John) that were indenture servants that came from England to VA - in 1659 and 1661 - possibly these are where the Twiford/Twyford orginated.
