Have been searching forever for info on John Twombly-wife-Dorothy Knight. They had Emma who married William Alonzo Whitney. Also they may be parents to Issac. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I have a John Twombly married in Penobscot, ME. to Hannah Knight, b: May 19, 1799. They have an Emma J. b: Feb 16, 1842 and an Isaac, b: Apr 25, 1838. I don't know who Emma married however, but does any of the timelines seem to work for your research? They were my ggg grandparents. Hope to hear from you soon, Rob

Hi Rob
I'm Paula Twombly Gray. My ggg grandfather is John Twombly too!My family is decended from his son, Isaac. I have been recently starting to search again for info after leaving it for a few years and I have found lots of info on grandma Hannah but cant find a birthplace or parents for John. It drives me crazy because there is so much info from Ralph forward I could have a nice long tree if I could only find the John missing link! Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks! Paula

Hi Paula,

It seems that we are all stymied by John Twombly-Twombly. Most of my research is done on the computer, so limited in some ways. I have lots of data on Hannah, but for John all I have is b: albt 1795, New Hampshire, d: apr 1855 at unknown place. I have chatted with many cousin's and all have about the same info. I would love to learn more about your lineage if you are willing share. Also would love to find out Gray connection, as I have direct lineage to Gray's from Scotland, Maine, Minnestoa. I do have Isaac A Twombley, b: apr 25, 1838, m Elvira Thornton, b abt 1839 ME.
Also have learned that my gggrand parents tombstones list the spelling as Twombley. Whereas I had used Twombly, so when I refer to the name it is now Twombley. Wish I could be of help on John, but I live in Minnesota and it is much to expensive to travel for research, but also think if there were an easy connection, someone would have discovered it by now. Hopt to hear from you again. Rob

Hi Rob! Hope my previos email went through! John and Hannah are my ggg grandparents, too. (John, Isaac, George, John, John, me)I have some old family info from my grandfather who has died. He said Emma married Alonzo Whitney, Henry b.1820 or 1821 married Lucille Kenney and Hannah b.Jul 1828 married William Hunt Spiller. My gg grandfather Isaac married Sarah Gerrish and had my g grandfather George who was born in Lee 1/18/1870. After all that, I still can't find out John's place of birth or birthdate!! Best of luck!!

Hi Rob!
My family went to Madbury NH a couple of weeks ago and we looked at an old book of town manager's minutes and there were several Twombly's voted in as constables and surveyors of highways. We also saw William (b.1717)Twombly's house that used to stand next to his garrison that was torn down in the 1840's - a nice rambling colonial. In the Dover library there was nothing new but a little clue to our John...the librarian got to an Ancestry library website that was a census of 'north of Bangor' of 1850 and it had John and Hannah's family listed and John's place of birth as 'NH'. So now I'm wondering if he really is related to the Madbury Twomblys (Ralph, John, William, William, John...then our John????) The mystery continues.....!
