Re: Any one with Twohig info
I have some information about the Twohigs who lived in Watertown/Cambridge/Brighton Mass from the mid-1800's through the 1970's. My grandmother was from this enclave.
There are other Twohigs in Massachusetts on the North Shore of Boston, in the Holyoke-Springfield area, in West Virginnia and in Chicago.
There are, no doubt, many other Twohigs, but their demographic distribution, based on postings to genealogy bulletin boards appears to have been concentrated in the areas that I mention above.
Looking forward to a reply.

Re: Any one with Twohig info
Hi, My name is Mike Twohig, I live in Cork Ciry,Ireland. The Twohigs in my family originated from West Cork, Skibereen direction. I imagine during the famine a lot of people emmigrated to the US. Another interesting fact also is the name Tuothy is the same names as Twohig in Gaelge... i.e. O Tuathaigh.

Re: Any one with Twohig info
We have a Mike Twohig here also. Spring Dale, WV has a cemetery that has many Twohigs. They owned (and still do) farms on what is called "Irish Mountain". Lots of nice information about this on the WV Web sites. Most of the family in the cemetary says "Born in County Cork, Ireland". A beautiful place and lots of great history. The Twohigs is this area are very good people.

Re: Any one with Twohig info
Hello! My name is Lisa Twohig and I just looked up my family out of curiosity and read what you've written. That's really strange because I am from Cork, Ireland. I live near Cork City and my dad is Barry Twohig.
My grandad, Jeremiah was born and raised on a small farm near Macroom in mid Cork. His father was Thomas, born and raised on the same farm and his father, my great-great grandfather was Michael. He was born near Millstreet.
My uncle Eamonn has being researching our family tree and if you think this might be any help to you let us know on my dad's e-mail.

Re: Any one with Twohig info
Lisa - I read your post with interest. My TWOHIG ancestors also came from County Cork near Macroom. Specifically, they lived near Knocknagappul or "Horsemount." If this sounds like it may be a match, I'd love to correspond with your uncle Eamonn. Charles Hansen charles@hansen.name

Re: Any one with Twohig info
Hello Lisa,
I would be interested to hear what your Uncle Eamonn has found on your Twohig family.
My ancestors came from Ireland to the USA. Most of them arrived before the American Civil War in 1865.
As far back as I have been able to discover, is James Twohig and his wife Mary.
James and mary had at least three children. The three that I know of were Dennis b. 1823; John b. 1830 and Timothy B. 1845.
The three brothers migrated to Boston and lived in house in Cambridge on what is now Sparks St.
The three brothers were stone/brick masons. My grandmother told me about going to see the sidewalk that they had built on Battle St (Tory Row in the Crown Colony days).
The lynchpin in the family appear to be James & Mary and the names of all their children.

I think I'm related to John Twohig - born in Cork in 1831. Is he a relation of yours? Brian Whitnell

Re: Any one with Twohig info
Mike,
My great-grandfather was a Michael Twohig believed to have emigrated from the Cork area to the United States sometime around 1865. He was either 14 or 15 at the time. I have had no luck tracing back any farther from him and hope that you might have some suggestions of how I could get records to find any parents/siblings, etc. He married a Mary Jane Steele in New York who was born in New York but whose parents also emigrated from Ireland. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
