Surnames: Twohig O'Connell Livingston Steele McCarthy
I actually have gotten some updated information since I first posted back in 2007 but still hit a brick wall that begins in Cork. I originally thought that my great-great-grandfather Michael Twohig came over from Cork, Ireland around 1865 and then met and married Mary Jane Livingston Steele in New York. Since then I've learned that his parents' names were Patrick Twohig and Mary (O'Connell) Twohig. Patrick and Mary were from Cork, Patrick Twohig was born about 1820 and Mary O'Connell between 1824-1826. Michael was born in 1850 and, along with his parents and older brother John, emigrated from Cork to New York in 1852. John was born around 1847 but I have not been able to find out anything about him after the 1870 US Federal Census. Patrick and Mary went on to have 8 more children. My 3rd grandfather Michael grew up to be a stonemason like his father Patrick as did two other sons of Patrick and Mary (Stephen Joseph and Patrick, both of whom were born in New York City. They also had one other son, Daniel, who's occupation was a "grainer" and at least 5 daughters; Hannah, Catherine, Mary, Agnes and Julia). Anyway, I just recently obtained a copy of Patrick's death certificate (he died at his residence at 1817 Franklin Ave in New York City in 1890). From this certificate I now know that his father's name was John Twohig. I do not know what his mother's first name was and the death certificate is a bit unclear but it appears to list Patrick's mother's maiden name as McCarthy. So, I'm now hoping that someone can help me find out anything about the John Twohig (I believe from Cork) who was married to someone with the surname of McCarthy - together they had a son Patrick Twohig who married Mary O'Connell in the mid-to-late 1840s. Patrick and Mary then emigrated in 1852 from Ireland to New York with their young sons, John and Michael. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

We may be related. My grandfather was Patrick J Twohig and I believe he grew up in what they referred to as the Crinaloo house. Patrick emigrated to Massachusetts married Catherine Lyons (also from Cork). The Crinaloo house was sold offin the 1980's I believe.Patricks sister Hannah married a Francis X Carney in Massachusetts. My mother is Mary (Twohig ) Coakley Patrick's daughter.
