Surnames: Twohig, O'Neill, Murphy, Sackett, Walsh, Stocker
So thrilled to find this obituary on line, but need help fitting Hannah Twohig into her family !!! Thought all this time she was possibly a niece of Denis Twohig, but her obit obviously proves otherwise. Listed her family data (as I believe it to be) after her obituary. Can't seem to match 2 of her sisters either, "Sister Mary of the Incarnation, Hoboken NJ", and "Mrs. Daniel F. Murphy, Hoboken NJ".
OBITUARY: "Sister Mary of St. Cyr. known in the world as Miss Hannah Twohig, of this city, passed away Christmas day at the Convent of the Good Shepherd, Brooklyn, N. Y. She entered the convent in 1873, at the age of 20. She was most devotedly attached to the care and education of orphan children, having always a large number of them under her charge. After she entered the convent she saw the outside world but three times. On two of these occasions she nursed yellow fever patients in the South, and once, about four years ago, she was allowed to visit the sister house in Brookline. She was born and brought up in old ward 1, this city (now ward 9), and lived there until she entered the House of the Good Shepherd. She is survived by four sisters and two brothers, as follows: Sister Mary of the Incarnation of the Convent of the Good Shepard Hoboken, N. J.; Mrs. Daniel .Murphy, of Hoboken, N. J.; Mrs. George Sackett, of Revere; Miss Susie F Twohig, Dennis J. Twohig nnd James T. Twohig, of this city".

I was also thrilled to read your post, since Hannah's obituary identified some family surnames I didn't know about. Dennis Twohig was my great-grandfather; Catherine Theresa Twohig Sackett (Mrs. George Raymond Sackett) was my grandmother; and William Lloyd Sackett was my father. I have a lot of family genealogical data but don't have time right now to look it up. Some of my information comes from my older sisters who were born in the 1920s. Regarding Dennis's children, he was married twice, according to my sisters, but we do not know who his first wife was. I do know about the two Sisters of the Good Shepherd and Julie M. Murphy (Mrs. Daniel); those three were from Dennis's first marriage. Julie was a teacher in Hoboken and had no children. One amusing story- my grandmother Catherine was Catholic and my grandfather, George Sackett, was Protestant. He made it very difficult for his wife to practice her religion and attend mass, and my father and his two brothers were never baptized. When my father and his older brother George were about 8 or 9, they were sent separately to the sisters in NJ for a summer vacation. The purpose of the trip was so that the sisters could arrange their baptism and first holy communion, secretly, without the knowledge of their father. I have a little note from one of the sisters that she gave my dad with his first communion handkerchief. When it came time for the third brother, Harry, to make the trip to NJ for his baptism, he refused and threatened to tell his father! So George and William remained Catholic and Harry remained Protestant.

I look forward to sharing more information with you. How are you related to Dennis Twohig?
