I am searching for ancestors and descendants of Oliver Twitty.
Oliver Twitty was born August 10, 1828, in North Carolina. He died February 16, 1910 and was buried at the Burdett Cemetery, Benton Township, Douglas Co., Misouri.
The story told to me about Oliver Twitty b: 1828, my furthest known ancestor is:
Oliver Twitty and his sister, Adah, were children of a Twitty family moving west from North Carolina. They had reached a place near Fredericktown, Madison County, Missouri, when the children (ages 9 and 7) became ill with chills and fever. Using Oliver's birthdate, 1828, this must have been between 1835 and 1837. Their parents stopped at a farm house, and asked the residents to care for the children for a few days. The parents continued on their journey to find a suitable place to settle. The parents never returned. They, too, may have become ill and died, or been killed. Those who took the children, raised them as their own, but did not adopt them. No one seems to know the name of the family who raised Oliver and Adah.
Oliver first married Harriet Wirtmiller (some have said Miller) about 1850. No record of their marriage has yet been found. They had children:
