Twidle / Twidale - Derbyshire

Surnames: BAGSHAW, TWIDALE, TWIDLE
My great-great-grandfather was William TWIDLE, from Bolsover in Derbyshire. His daughter Elizabeth TWIDALE married Thomas BAGSHAW in 1860, their first-born William Twidale Bagshaw was my mother's father (spellings as parish records).

Thomas's brother Robert married Martha Twidale in 1863, their grandfather (my 3g-grandfather) Henry Bagshaw I believe married Jane Twidale as a second marriage around 1793.

The Twidale (or whatever) family were shopkeepers in Bolsover until relatively recent times. They also ran one of the first bus services to operate in the area.

My researches seem to indicate they came originally from Nottinghamshire. IGI shows a lot of events in the East Midlands.

I have William's will on order which should help me sort out other lines. If this overlaps with anyone else's inquiries please let me know.

Regards

Peter

Hello
I do believe William Twidle was my great great uncle. My grandfathers
uncle. My grandmother lived next door in the pub ... The bluebell from age 10 to 14 before moving to Doncaster.
My grandfather was called Arthur Twydle ( he changed the spelling by depole) however still got called Twiddle.

Hi Caroline
Sorry - I've only just seen your posting - good to hear from you.
What were the names of you grandfather and grandmother? Do you have any references to support this? I've been trying to trace the Twidale's back from William but no joy. William (b1821?)had a son (also William b1839) who is mentioned in his father's will (1860 see http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/DERBYSGEN/2004...) and both 1841 & 1851 census, but I cannot find any record of his death or emigration. His sister Elizabeth married Thomas Bagshaw (my great-grandparents) and they seem to have taken over the mills.
