John Ward and Harry Meadowcroft did most of the original work on the Tweedale family tree. I did most of my work 10 years ago and John had married my (Oldham side) Betty to the wrong (Rochdale) Tweedale in the 1800s (I think). I thought I had uploaded the tree to anccestry, but can't spot it. Winding down to retirement I'm finding more time. Any specific qs especially around the Mill Bottom Oldham Tweedales do get in touch- mandy at tweedale.org

This is all the information i have. I not sure if the betty i have has any relation at all. Seems somewhat of a strange name in a small location though. Good luck if it is of any use to you. It's certainly got me beat!

Hi Dawn

I have three Betty Tweedales in my records:

1. Chr. 23 Apr 1759 at St. Chad's Rochdale, dau. of Jacob Tweedale and Mary (nee Fielden).

2. Born 1793 at Hollows Farm, Spotland, Rochdale, dau. of Jacob Tweedale and Betty (nee Dobson).

3. Born 1817 at Fisherfield, dau. of Abraham Tweedale and rachael (nee Greenhaugh).

Do any of these fit the bill?

My name is Dawn Arts, nee Walton.

Recently been looking into my ancestry.
I've found a few things out but haven't confirmed yet.
My family are from Rochdale. my great, great, great grandfather was Johnathan Wood who was married to a Betty Tweedale.

Any relation?

I have two Toughs in my tree:

Barbara b. abt 1821, Angus; d. abt 1892, Friockheim, Angus
&
Mary Helen Tough, b. 7 Nov 1896, Banchory Ternan, Aberdeenshire; d. 15 Feb 1935, Monikie, Aberdeenshire.

Barbara married James Joss Fairweather abt 1861 at Monifieth, Angus
&
Mary married John Finlay Ellis Sherriffs 28 Nov 1919 at Peterculter, Aberdeenshire.

Sorry, I don't have information about their parents.

shouldn't post this here but, I have a Helen Maria Gordon haven't got much on her other than she was mother of James, John, Alex, Charles,George and possibly girls too as I am still searching this line MacDonald/McDonald she was married to a John McDonald/MacDonald around 1808 in Scotland and their Son James McDonald 1808-1884 married a Margaret Grant these are my ggggrandparents their daughter Jane/Jean/Janet (not sure depends on the document) 1845 went on to marry a John Stuart 1870 in Knockando, Scotland and their Daughter Jane Stewart married a John Tough 1894 and I seen in your tree which came up in my hints that you have a Mary Helen Tough 1899-1900??? can you possibly help me out with who her parents were?? thanks K

I'm also descended from Margaret and James's daughter, Anne.

Anne married David Low, I'm descended from their son, John, who married Elizabeth MacDonald. Their daughter, Jessie, married Alexander Kerr. Their son, John married Alexandrina Edwards. Their son, John, maried Jane (or Jean) Robert. Their daughter, Agnes, married James Watt Gordon. My father was their son, David.

Margaret Tweedale m. James Lamb in Scotland

I have one Tweedale and would like more information, if possible.
Margaret Tweedale, b. abt 1703 in Scotland, d. abt. 1742, married James Lamb on 6 June 1727 in Craig by Montrose, Angus, Scotland. James Lamb was born abt. 27 September 1707 in Montrose, Scotland and died abt. 1766. They had eight children:
James b. 1727; Robert b. 1729; Margaret b. 1733; Isabel b. 1736;
another Margaret, b. 1738; Ann(e?) born 13 January 1739/40; Alex b. 1742.

I follow Ann(?)'s line, who went on to marry David Low, but I would appreciate ANY new information on the Tweedale family, or their descendants...or the Lambs, for that matter. Thanks! Thelma

My Great Grandmother was Ellen Tweedale, born May 1850 in Bury, Lancashire, England.

She married Robert Platt (1847-1912) at Haslington Registry Office in 1872. They lived at Waterfoot, Lancs which is where she died in 1932.

Anyone got any connections?

Elizabeth Tweedale was born in Ireland and died in Renfrew, Scotland. She was married to David Gemmell on 9 June 1866. She had a son, Samuel Gemmell (1867-1938).

Would like information about Elizabeth's parents and any other information on Elizabeth.

Thomas Laidlaw, b June 25, 1745, Glespen, Douglas, LKS, SCT, m Jean Tweedale, b Douglas, LKS, SCT, in 1784 in Douglas, LKS, SCT.

I have some ancestors of Thomas Laidlaw, but none on the TWEEDALEs and would be interested in any information anyone can provide on Jean or this family.
