I am searching for the parents of David Tweddle, born 23 Feb 1829 in Long Ridge, Cumberland Co, England; died 09 Jun 1903 in Empire Twp,Leelanau Co, MI. He was the son of John Tweddle on the marriage record. He married Mary Ann Bell on 09 May 1857 in Apartia Parish, Cumberland Co, Eng. She was born 25 Nov 1837 in England, and died 08 Jan 1911 in Empire Twp, Leelanau Co MI. She was the daughter of George Bell and Elenore Rhea.
In an article published around 1900 David states that he was born in Long Ridge, Cumberland Co, England. His residence when he married was Aspatria Parish, Cumberland Co, Eng. They sailed for NY on the Bridgewater 9 May 1857 arriving 28 days later. Their Marriage was witnessed by John and Ann Graham. I believe that he was related to the Graham's. A William Tweddel married Isabel Graham and had at least two children William born 1796 and John born 1801. David's children were: Anne(mother's name?) Eleanor, his mother in laws name; John, his fathers name; George, his father-in-law name; William and Robert ??

Gene,

Here is the record.

Stapleton baptisms and births. Genuki cumberland.

Entry No. 436 ; 15 Mar 1829 David child of Ann TWEDDLE of Longrigg , a Spinster

No Dad recorded there but if you find the record for the baptism it would probably give the father.

Julie

Julie,

I am aware of that record. Which is the baptism record, as he was born the 23 of Feb. 1829 according to his bio in 1900. I have no proof that David the son of Ann is the mother of my David. That she is listed as a spinster lends credence to her being the mother and widower of John.

Now to find the death record of John, which had to occur prior to his birth and after David's conception.

Julie,
Spinster lead me to look it up in Wikipedia. In that time period it meant and older unmarried female. Instead of spinster widow would have been the proper term to apply, if she was married prior to the birth.

The person that entered the record may have used spinster for all that did not have a living spouse.

Julie,

Since I wrote last I discoverd that "spinster" was also an occupation. One of the few open for females.

The town probably is actually Longrigg instead of Long Ridge. "LONGRIGG, a township united with Mealrig, in the parish of Bromfield, county Cumberland, 6 miles S.W. of Wigton."
