Does anyone have any information that ties in with the following? I'd love to hear from you - thanks in advance for any help! -Erica Tworog,
etworog@brandeis.eduMy grandfather, Joseph Tworog, was born Jozef Twarog on Februrary 17, 1920 in Rhode Island. He subsequently changed the name to Tworog while in grade school, believing (quite mistakenly!) that it would be easier to pronounce. He had two sisters, Mary (1911~1970s) and Genevieve (1913-present), both of whom went on to have children. He also had three brothers, none of whom had any children: Chester (1922-1995), John (1905-?, died young from a drowning accident), and Frank (1909~1970s). All of the children assumed the new surname spelling and lived in the Warwick/Coventry, Rhode Island area. Their parents were Andrew Twarog (1881-1964) and Sophie (Zofia) Wanat (~1880s-1956), both of whom emigrated from Poland to Rhode Island at an unknown date and never learned to speak English.
