My grandmother was Pamela Lila Twa, born in 1883. Her father was Joseph Twa married to Sarah Jane Merryfield. They lived in Crystal Falls, Michigan. Apparently Joseph Twa was French Canadian and no one is sure if the spelling "Twa" is the original spelling of the name. I have very sketchy information about this aspect of my family tree. There are quite a few Twas in Upper Michigan apparently. Any information would be appreciated.

Barbara: My wife's mother lives with us and her maiden name is Anna Maynette Twa and she is the daughter of William Stuart Twa. William Stuart is the sister of your grandmother Lila Pamelia Twa who married William Reinhart Urban. They had a daughter named Mildred Mae Urban. Is that your mother?
Anna is now almost 88 years old.
I do have a lot of Twa information but also a lot of missing blanks. Maybe we can help each other.
Regards,
Tom Freeman

Had been in ailing health for some time. Passed away from this life at his home here on Thursday morning at 4:30 quietly sleeping his last hours away on this earth.
He was born in Anveau Province of Quebec, Canada and came to Crystal Falls forty two years ago being one of the pioneers of Crystal Fall history.
He had a great love for horses and spent his life in teaming contracting and was well known to everyone in the city. He was diligent, honest and industrious and a good neighbor.
He was a member or the Order of Maccabees.

Mrs. Henry Nehmer of Ontonogan, Michigan, Mrs. William Bruneau of Virginia, Minn.
There are thirty nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Hi Ray: I received your E-mail and shared it with my mother-in-law who enjoyed reading it. As I told you her father was Stuart Twa. Thanks for responding to my request.
I supppose you know the original name was Touin and I have a lot of info going back through Canada and to France. Will send if you want it. Below is Stuart Twa's obit.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. yesterday at the Plowe Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Edward Weiss, Jr. pastor of Christ United Methodist church, officiating. Mr. Twa, age 96, died Sunday morning at the Iron County Medical Care facility following a brief illiness.
Born March 18, 1880, in Canada, he came to the U.S. and the Crystal Falls area at the age of 7. He had resided here since that time, attending the Crystal Falls schools. He was employed for many years as a carpenter and diamond driller for the Odgers and Longyear drilling companies. Recently he spent a few years with his daughters, and last month returned to Crystal Falls, which he always considered as home.
He married Stella Langland, who passed away in 1932. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Leslie(Maynette) Johndrow of Crystal Falls, Mrs. Rex(Hallie) Corbett of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Melvin(Merle) Rutz of Milwaukee; a son, John Twa of Ishpeming; 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Friends called after 4 p.m. Monday at the Plowe Funeral Home. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.
Stuart died May 11, 1976.
Ray: Do you have anything on Stella Langland? We have very little on her. She died young at childbirth.
Maynette says her father always signed his name Stuart and not Stewart but she doesn't know what his birth certificate would say.
Also, she believes Joseph Twa's wifes's name is Merrifield. We have pictures of her and Joseph. Again, thanks for your response.
