Roadblock on my husband's family

My husband's Mother's side has been proving to be quite the challange! His mother's maiden name was TUZ and we can get back to her Paternal GGrandfather Michael TUZ from Austria but no dates for him. Here is what we know Michael TUZ, Austria- 2 children m. Ellen Krew; John TUZ 1875 Austria to Connecticut USA-9 children m. Nellie Cole; Samuel 1913 Connecticut to Florida-3 children m. Mary Delaveras; Darlene 1947 Connecticut to Idaho-2 children m. James Forrester. There could be more children for Michael (Austria) & John. The Delaveras side is no better :(

We do realize it could be shortened from SOMETHING, we just have NO IDEA what. I'd really like to breakthrough so if any of these names ring a bell PLEASE contact me. THANK YOU!!

Hi. My great grandmother's name is also TUZ. She was born in the 1840 and died in 1879. She lived in Jaryczow Nowy, Lwow, Poland/Ukraine in the 1870s. I found her name (Catherine Tuz) in the LDS films from the parish.

The name was not shortened. In fact, I had seen her name written as Tusa and Tuzow on my grandfather's USA records. I think Tuz was pronounced with a little extra accent at the end which led to longer spellings here. I was surprised when the church records said TUZ.

I will keep you in mind when new films, currently on backorder, arrive.

Catherine Tuz was married to Onufry Idzik. Their son listed his heritage as Ruthenian. They were Polish Catholics. The church records do not have birth information for Catherine Tuz so I don't know if she was born in Lwow.

Maria Kaczorowska was married to Gregory Tuz in 1838. Marie died on 19 Apr 1900. They may be Catherine's parents.

Carol Kaczorowski was married to Sophia Idzik abt 1880.

Thank you so much! I apologize for not replying sooner, the responses weren't coming to my email. Do you see that there is any possibility that Tuz may be shortened or Americanized or is it a (more or less) common surname in the area historically?

You're welcome.
Being that TUZ shows up in Poland I take it as a surname and not a shortened anything.

http://www.herby.com.pl/ click on Slownika Nazwisk;
in the window type TUZ and click on Szukaj
You should get all the surnames that start with TUZ in Poland. Hope this helps. For a letter that has a special marking use a wild card % ...

It is not shortened. Gregory Tuz, born in 1814 , is my gggrandfather. The Jaryczow Nowy church records show it as TUS and TUZ.
