Tuyls family from Green Bay
My wife's G-grandfather, William Bender married an Effie Tuyls who was born in Wisconsin in about 1885 and looking in the Census records the only Tuyls I could find who would somewhat match was a Sophia Tuyls from the Green Bay area. I was wondering if anyone had additional information on Sophia and if she may have gone by Effie.
Thanks for any information.

Re: Tuyls family from Green Bay
I'm researching the Crone/Tuyls connection and found Phoebe Crone m. John Tuyls Jr. and had ten children;seven alive in 1944. I have had a tough time finding all the Tuyls children on census too. I have Phoebe's obituary which only mentions "Mrs.Bender of Chicago" as a daughter. On the 1880 census there is an Elizabeth Tuyls age 5 in Greenbay. Is this who you are looking for? I haven't seen any Sophie Tuyls either. ? Nickname. The Tuyls are buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Greenbay. I don't know where your Bender family ended up.There is a mention of Mrs. William Bender of Chicago in the obituary for Effie J Crone- Hatch in 1931 in Oshkosh,WI. Please let me know if there is a connection or not. Thanks

Re: Tuyls family from Green Bay
I'm not sure if there's a connection, William's marriage certificate in Dec. 1905 list the bride as Effie Tuyls age 20 which makes her birth year about 1885. All my wife's mother remembers of her grandmother was that when she passed away they sent her back to Green Bay to be buried with the family which was about 1955. The only Tuyls I could find on the census with a DOB close was Sophia who was born in Jan 1884. I'm not sure of a Crone relationship, though I haven't been able to get more then about 3 generations back.

Re: Tuyls family from Green Bay
Hi, What was her father's name on the census or her death certificate? Was she from Green Bay or Preble,WI? Try writing to Woodlawn Cemetery in Green Bay for burial records. That's all I have for you. Marian

Re: Tuyls family from Green Bay
It looks like it is a match. I found the 1900 Census records listed Effie as the daughter of a John and Pheve, though they last name is spelled Tuyles and not Tuyls.

Re: Tuyls family from Green Bay
Yes the name is misspelled on many censuses, and I found the 1900 one on Heritage Quest. Sorry I didn't write down all of the misspellings data for each one.I have only researched the Crone side of the family and found some names in Phoebe Tuyls' obituary. It looks like your ancestor Elizabeth,Effie/?? and William Bender lived in Chicago,Illinois when Phoebe Tuyls died on June 15,1944 in Green Bay,WI. Her father John Tuyls is on 1880 census in Green Bay,1900 Census-you have, 1910 in Green Bay, and 1920 in Green Bay.Please let me know if I can help you further.
