All research documentation to date suggests Zachariah Tuten son of William Hall Tuten was born in North Carolina. This is significant in that I suspected a relationship to Absolum Tuten of North Carolina and William Hall Tuten of South Carolina. I think William Hall Tuten and Absolum Tuten of North Carolina are brothers and children of Benjamin Tuten of Wedmore Somersetshire England. MY bet is they both came to America via the significant migration port of the era, New Bern North Carolina. William Hall Tuten is without doubt the father of Zachariah as we find a passport through "hostile" Indian country where he visited Tenn ..no doubt to visit son Zachariah. Zach's birth in North Carolina would mean therefore that William Hall Tuten was obviously first in North Carolina and migrated to South Carolina sometimes after Zachariah was born in 1766. We later find descendants/generations of Absolum of NC migrating to South Carolina and settle around, and actually intermarrying, to the Tuten's of South Carolina....this is very telling. Zachariah and the obvious close relationships between grandchildren of these men create a definite link between William Hall Tuten and Absolum Tuten.

There is also a real possibility that Thomer Tutton, son of Benjamin, is a Thomas and he is the father of Absalom Tuten and William Hall Tuten. This theory is supported in that both sons named children Thomas which could named be after him.

Hi!
I know this is a long shot, since this was posted 9 years ago, but was wondering if this thread was regarding Absolum Green Tuten (b. 1785), or a different one? We have a pretty comprehensive family tree compiled, but have nearly nothing on the parents and family of Absolum G. Tuten.

Thanks!

Kate

My Grandmother was a Tuten, descended from the line of Absolum Green Tuten and Charity Ann Mixon
