Overbrook (Kansas) Citizen 7 Jun 1925
Susan Beaman Tutcher
Susan Annette Beaman was born Nov. 24, 1841, and at the time of her death, June 7, 1925, had reached the age of 83 years, 6 months and 14 days.
She was born in (Buffalo, Ogle County) Illinois, the 2nd of five children of Moses and Susan Beaman. They moved to Kansas in 1856 and homesteaded on the farm where she lived until recently when she was taken to the home of her daughter, Mrs. (Lillian Nancy Tutcher) F W Vincent, for better care.
She was married to Thomas H Tutcher (1832-1917) in Clinton, Kan., July 28, 1861. To his union were born seven children. One son (Moses Tutcher b & d 11 Jan 1866) died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Andrew Stark of Waukon, Wash, died in 1919. The others are: Mrs. F W Vincent (Lillian Nancy Tutcher 1862-1932), Thomas N (Thomas Moses 1867-1950) and Benjamin A (1871-1950) of Overbrook, Albert E of Stauford, Tex., and Wallace H (1884-?) of Spirit Lake, Ida.
The two continued to walk life’s path together for nearly 56 years. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, July 28, 1911 very happily at their home in Douglas county. He proceeded her to their Heavenly Home 8 years ago on June 27, 1917. She has 25 grand children and 26 great-grandchildren surviving her. She also leaves a niece, Mrs. Susie Knight-Smith of Kansas City, Mo., to mourn her death.
She assisted her late husband as postmaster at Appanoose for 15 years and since his death has been very independent in caring for herself until her recent sickness. Her moral side had strong characteristics and she was united with the congregational church no far from her home in 1880. That organization having gone out of existence she became a member of the Congregational church at Overbrook.
While Grandma Tutcher has been called to her Father’s home she leaves many cherished memories with toe nearest to her.

I think I am related to her. My great grandfather was Noel Albert Tutcher and my great-great grandfather was Albert Tutcher. I think Susan Annette Beaman Tutcher was an aunt who married into my family. I'll have to research more. Verrrry interesting!!

I have talked to Cindy Radway and Billy Tutcher briefly. I am the only granddaughter of Marilyn Jane Tutcher Gribble(daughter of Nina Cook and Noel Tutcher) and the only daughter of Karen Joan Gribble Wheeler (Jane's daughter). I live in Dallas and am married with a child. My husband's other son (of his previous marriage) also lives with us. My mom lives in Valley View, Texas. My grandmother (Jane Tutcher Gribble) currently resides in Wichita Falls and is okay at the moment but her health is up and down. We've had a few big scares with her diabetes but other than that, she's alert and ready to take on an army.

My big question is regarding a historical research trip I took to Jones and Fisher counties here in Texas. I am interested to know more about Jessie Fisher and Albert Tutcher. I would like to know where they are buried. I thought they might be in the Stamford area but a scavenger hunt to all the local graveyards in Hamlin (Fisher Co.) and Stamford (Jones Co.) turned up nothing. I am also interested to know what Mrs. Fisher did for a living. I found a unique historical marker dating about the turn of the century on one of the county roads leading up to Hamlin. It told of a school teacher named Ms. Fisher who was buried in the back of the school with 13 unmarked graves of children, possibly having been taken by a fatal influenza epidemic. If anyone can provide any insight into this, I would greatly appreciate it. I plan to go back out there before the summer is over and do more research, maybe with the County Office of Vital Statistics. Stamford (Jones Co.) is located about 40 miles north of Abilene if anyone else is interested in doing some history trails with me!! It's lots of fun!!

Nice to chat with you all. Take care.

I asked my father about the burial place of his grandparents Albert and Jessie Tutcher. They are buried in Highland Cemetery along with their daughter Lily.
