Hello,
My Tutas ancestor was said to have been in the Prussian Army. He was born in Poland near the Russian/lativian border. The name could be Lativian. My grandmother was the youngest of thirteen Tutas children. That was her father. The mother did die young. Apparently, it may have been a suicide or an abortion attempt, according to my aunt who had had a conversation about it with her sister. This man was said to have been extremely violent. He lived on a farm in Wisconsin and at least one of my grandmother's sisters did go to Ohio. That would be one of his daughters. The brothers and sisters did separate and according to my grandmother, who died 4 years ago, she was the last one still living. Some of them may have stayed behind in the old country when the family emigrated before the WWI. Some of the birth records of the Tutas children can be found on ancestry.com, as it was so long ago. Maybe you will find your ancestors there.

Hi,
My name is Michael A. Thompson, Grandson of Arthur Tutas, Great Grandson of Adolf Tutas. I am not sure where to start as I am so excited it is hard to type.
My mother, Judy(Tutas)Thompson called me last week to tell me that my uncle Art Tutas(Jr) called to tell her he found some information about the Tutas clan on the internet and it was posted on Ancestry .com. Sure enough there it was. Was I surprised that when I expanded the thread I found a response to an inquiry which I must have made over a year ago.

To Michael A. Thompson. I've checked with my family. Those are my ancestors, too. We've got the documents you are searching for. I suggest that you contact my Aunt at bunsworth@masonwells.com She has all this information and would be interested in sharing. My grandmother was the youngest of their children and lived to be quite old so we do know something. And apparently, the were not German but born in Poland from the records we have.

I have been looking for information about Adolph for some time. Currently I have a letter and Christmas card sent to my mother from her Aunt Caroline in 1994. It is a summary of the life of Gust Tutas (1891-1959): Brother to my grandfather Art Tutas and son to Adolf Tutas.

The information states that (as of 1994) Gust's parents were Adolphus [German] and Caroline(Soper) Tutas [Latavian} subjects to Russia. They immigrated to the USA in 1893, when Gust was two years old and settled in Pound, WI. Gust became a citizen on September 30, 1916 at Marinette, WI. Gust had five sisters; Augusta,Ida, Sadie, Emma, and Ella and four brothers, Otto, Henry, Arthur (my Grandfather), and Eddie. The rest of the information deals with the Gust's children.

I pray that you receive this information and are able to respond with additional details. I would post a reply on Ancestry.com, but am no longer a member. Perhaps if one of you are you could post this for others to share.

Sincerely,
Michael Arthur Thompson

Our Tutas family came from Prussia in 1892 on the ship Braunschweig, out of Bremen Germany and landed in Baltimore, June 2, 1892. Grandmother was Caroline Tutas, Grandfather, Adolph Tutas, he was supposed guard in the Keiser Palace but could not confirm. They were living in Wolin Poland at the time when the immigrated. They brought with them one son named Gustave and had 6 more children after arriving in Pound Wisconsin. Otto, Heinrich, Sadie, George Arthur (my Father), Edward and Ella, total of 7. Caroline does not appear on the 1920 census taken in Pound therefore we believe she died sometime before that time. I am currently searching for records that will show how she died. This is where my search ends, I have viewed information on Wolin Poland on-line, it was an island off the coast and has a 1000 years of history, starting with the Vikings. My Son has researched the life in Pound WI when they arrived and it was quite brutal, very frontier like. Well that is all for now, I will advise if I find out further information. Take care.
